DUCK DYNASTY’s Phil Robertson Talks Taylor Swift and THE BLIND
By Movieguide® Contributor
In a recent episode of the “Unashamed” podcast with DUCK DYNASTY’s Phil Robertson, he and his sons talked about how Taylor Swift is interfering with their hit movie, THE BLIND.
“I’d say get your tickets now. I was just looking you know the big Taylor Swift… I know you guys are big Taylor Swift fans y’all probably went to the concert…” their co-worker Zach jokingly told listeners.
“What does Taylor Swift have to do with any of this?” Jase Robertson interjected with a confused look.
“Well, she did the concert thing that just blew up. Well now they’re taking the concert and they’ve turned it into a movie, but her fans are so rabid that two weeks after our film, they’ve basically kicked every other film out except for this,” Zach continued.
“I mean she’ll be on every screen and every theater in America so if you want to watch THE BLIND you probably have about a two-week window, I’d get your tickets now,” he explained.
“We’re up against Taylor Swift that’s not who you want to be up against these days,” Al Robertson said.
Swift’s TAYLOR SWIFT: THE ERAS TOUR movie is expected to make a big impact worldwide when it releases in a few weeks.
USA Today reported, “Initially, the movie was slated to play at more than 4,000 theaters around North America, but recently European showings have been added that will bring that total to around 7,500 movie theaters globally.”
“That puts TAYLOR SWIFT: THE ERAS TOUR on par with some of the biggest Hollywood blockbusters,” the outlet added. “July’s release of Tom Cruise’s latest MISSION IMPOSSIBLE installment also was in around 4,000 theaters.”
The pop star’s rumored romance with Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce has only made more people curious about her, likely boosting her upcoming movie’s popularity,
“At this point, Swift is such a global cultural phenomenon that she is likely bringing both devoted fans and the curious into theaters,” said Shawn Robbins, chief analyst at Box Office Pro.
Despite the threat Swift poses for upcoming and recently released movies, THE BLIND has been a huge success.
Movieguide® previously reported on THE BLIND:
THE BLIND landed at No. 5 at the box office this weekend, scoring the No. 1 spot on its opening day.
The movie tells the true story of DUCK DYNASTY patriarch Phil Robertson, describing how God transformed and redeemed his life…
When the film opened Thursday, it brought in $839k according to Box Office Pro. The website shared that “In its first full weekend, it earned $4.1M for fifth place, a top five debut that few saw coming.”
This take is impressive because of THE BLIND’s limited release, reaching only 1,717 theaters nationwide. For reference, PAW PATROL: THE MIGHTY MOVIE took $23M but is playing in 3,989 theaters, per Box Office Pro.
Part of Movieguide®’s review reads:
In some ways THE BLIND is a very good movie as a testimony. That said, its construction doesn’t follow all the rules of filmmaking, so it may not win a big audience. The movie is propelled by the jeopardy, and vice and drinking, while narration tells us where it’s going, and flashbacks show where it started. Even so, it could be a good testimony for many people. However, THE BLIND is definitely a rough movie, and MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution, especially for children and young teenagers.
