‘Man of God’: Eagles QB Jalen Hurts Leads Team to Incredible Comeback Victory

By Movieguide® Contributor

The Philadelphia Eagles’ faith-filled quarterback Jalen Hurts led his team to victory during a Sunday game against the Buffalo Bills.

“The Eagles trailed 17-7 at halftime and 24-14 at the start of the fourth quarter, but two quick touchdown tosses put them back on top. After a Buffalo TD with 1:52 remaining, Hurts got Philadelphia into field goal position to send the game into overtime. The Bills then kicked a field goal to open the overtime scoring, which set the stage for Hurts’ heroics. His game-sealing play came on a 12-yard scamper to give Philadelphia the thrilling victory,” Sports Spectrum wrote.

In a post-game press conference, Hurts stated, “We continue to find ways to win. We play together. We’ve shown our resiliency day in and day out, game in and game out. We’ve been challenged in a number of different ways, but we always find a way. And that’s something you can’t really take for granted, and it’s hard to quantify.”

Hurts’ faith in Jesus also plays a major role in his ability to lead his team.

In an interview with GQ last year, Hurts revealed how important his daily quiet time is.

“This is really important to me because I’m a man of God,” the quarterback said. “Waking up every morning and having a routine where I can gain some wisdom, learn His Word, and just walk by the Spirit. I strive to do that daily, and I challenge myself to spread that Word organically.”

“My daily devotional has been a pivotal part of my life,” he added. “I [also] have my journal. I always write down the things that I’m grateful for. Dedicate some time to giving gratitude to where I am, where I’ve come and Who’s coming with me.”

Through the highs and lows of life, Hurts stays focused on God.

In a 2019 story for the Players’ Tribune, he wrote, “I understand that God put those obstacles and challenges in my life for a reason. He wanted me to feel the pain I felt for a reason. He wanted me to understand the importance of never losing faith — and of always staying true to myself. He had NOT brought me this far just to leave me there.”

“I know everything will unfold according to God’s timing. I am blessed to be where my feet are; my trust is in His hands,” he added.

The 24-year-old also leads the entire league in yards per pass attempt. The Eagles sit comfortably atop the league with the most total yards through the season’s first two weeks (941).

“It was very efficient tonight,” Hurts said of his performance. “That’s the type of football we want to play … We want to be that way consistently.”

The win also gave the Eagles their first 2-0 start since 2016, and they are tied with the New York Giants as the best team in the NFC East.

Despite his early career success in the NFL, Hurts keeps his life in perspective through his faith in God.

“I’ve just matured and realized that God is everything,” Hurts told CBS Sports in a recent interview. “He’s worthy of praise. You have to put Him at the center of everything that you do. That’s what I believe. All my spiritual wisdom — all of my wisdom as a whole — comes from Him, in some way, shape or form, whether that be passed down from my father, my mother, my grandmother. I just think, in all the things that we experience in life — good, bad or indifferent — you have to keep Him in the center.”
