Eric Metaxas Urges Christians ‘To Speak Up’ Against Evil in New Documentary

By Movieguide® Contributor

Author and radio host Eric Metaxas is encouraging Christians to stand strong in their faith against cultural evil through his new documentary LETTER TO THE AMERICAN CHURCH.

“It’s up to believers to speak up for what is right and good and true, and to bring our faith into the public square; not to be afraid of politics — to get involved in politics — because this is one of the ways God has given us to effect change,” he told The Christian Post. “And I think a lot of people are more worried about being liked. They think that being a Christian means ‘I don’t argue with people; I’m winsome all the time.’ And sometimes you have to battle.”

Metaxas emphasized that “evil is real,” adding, “If you, as a Christian, do not participate with those who are standing against it, the Lord will allow evil to continue to rise, and what we’ve seen is just the beginning. It will come for absolutely everyone. And that’s the warning.”

“You think it’s just going to happen to other people,” he continued. “That’s never the case. It happens to them first. If you do nothing, eventually it will find its way to you and to your family, and I think that we’re commanded to love our neighbors. If you love your neighbors, you won’t let this stand.”

Metaxas is currently promoting his latest book and its companion documentary, both titled LETTER TO THE AMERICAN CHURCH.

A description of the book reads, “Can it really be God’s will that His children be silent at a time like this? Decrying the cowardice that masquerades as godly meekness, Eric Metaxas summons the Church to battle. Silence is not an option. God calls us to defend the unborn, to confront the lies of cultural Marxism, and to battle the globalist tyranny that crushes human freedom. Confident that this is His fight, the Church must overcome fear and enter the fray, armed with the spiritual weapons of prayer, self-sacrifice, and love.”

The documentary features Metaxas, as well as Charlie Kirk, Dr. James Lindsay, Pastor Rob McCoy, Seth Gruber, Pastor David Engelhardt, Victor Marx, Eileen Marx and Pastor John K. Amanchukwu Sr.

“LETTER TO THE AMERICAN CHURCH lays out the parallels between early 1930’s Nazi Germany and other totalitarian regimes, including Mao, Stalin and what is happening in America today and how the Church has been silent in the face of this evil,” Yahoo reported. “Because of America’s influence, the Church has received a calling to defend the voiceless and speak against the powers that silence the cry for freedom. The film argues that the Church’s decision to stay out of politics undermines the very message of the gospel and its power to transform every sphere of human existence.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Metaxas:

Author Eric Metaxas recently shared his testimony with Kirk Cameron on the latest episode of TAKEAWAYS.

Metaxas, who is open about his Christian faith and conservative values, recalled his humble childhood and painful journey to faith.

Despite growing up around Greek orthodoxy and his parents’ testimony of faith, Metaxas said he did not have a personal relationship with Christ…

“In this time in my life, not only do I have depression but my circumstances were agony,” he recalled. “I was in such pain that I met a guy who starts sharing his faith with me. His name is Ed tuttle. He befriended me, he’s sharing Jesus with me and I had this attitude like, ‘don’t get too close with that weird stuff, you guys are weird, I don’t want to become one of you, part of the cult…”

“He gave me a sign,” he recalled. “It was a dream. It was around my 25th birthday. I had a dream and in the dream I’m fishing on Candlewood lake in Danbury Connecticut where I have fished many times…”

“I know in the dream that Jesus is giving me this gift of himself and of the knowledge and he’s speaking the language that only makes sense to me,” he added. “In the dream I was filled with joy. It’s real, it’s true, Jesus is real. I was absolutely changed instantly and the next day I went to work and I told my friend Ed Tuttle about the dream. I said to him words that I would never have said before, I said I have accepted Jesus.”
