Everything We Know About NCIS: ORIGINS Season One
By Movieguide® Contributor
With the fall TV season just around the corner, here’s everything we currently know about the highly anticipated NCIS: ORIGINS.
The show will offer viewers a look at Gibbs in his early years as an NCIS agent. Though he is only a newly minted special agent, Gibbs is hand-picked to join the ragtag team led by Mike Franks at the budding Camp Pendleton office.
The show will feature well-established characters including Gibbs, Mike Franks and Gibb’s father, while also introducing new faces such as special agent Lala Dominguez and special agent Vera Strickland. Though not appearing in the show, Mark Harmon will return to narrate as an older Gibbs reflecting on his younger years.
Though NCIS: ORIGINS is only currently slated for a 12-episode pilot season, Harmon is hopeful the show will find quick success so CBS will greenlight more episodes.
“It’s early guys,” Harmon told Parade. “All I can tell you is this is a tough business and most of them don’t make it. We’ve got a shot here and I’m thrilled about this cast and thrilled about [showrunners] David and Gina. They’re as good as it ever got in 20-some odd years with creatives on NCIS.”
The show will star Austin Stowell (Gibbs), Kyle Schmid (Mike Franks), Mariel Molino (Lala Dominguez), Diany Rodriguez (Vera Strickland), Tyla Abercrumbie (Officer Mary Jo Sullivan) and Robert Taylor (Gibbs’ father).
While the excitement for this show has grown sky-high, fans will have to wait until October for its premiere. At the beginning of August, CBS revealed its fall lineup and had all of its scripted shows beginning a month later than normal. Its unscripted shows (SURVIVOR, 60 MINUTES, THE PRICE IS RIGHT) will, however, begin during the normal September window.
NCIS: ORIGINS will premiere on Oct. 14 at 9 p.m. ET/PT with a special two-hour episode before moving to its normal Monday timeslot at 10 p.m. ET/PT the following week.
Movieguide® previously reported:
NCIS: ORIGINS showrunner Mark D. Cross is giving fans of the franchise a sneak peek at what they can expect from the prequel series.
NCIS: ORIGINS “follows a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs as he starts his career as part of the Naval Investigative Service operating out of Camp Pendleton,” per IMDb.
The series is unique in the NCIS-verse, as it’s the first show in the franchise set in the past, telling the backstory of already-known characters. However, that doesn’t mean there won’t be some surprises in store.
“They don’t know as much as they think they do,” Cross said of NCIS’ fans. “Seeing Gibbs arrive at NIS on Day 1, and seeing how Gibbs became Gibbs…? You will realize there’s so much to explore.”
