Former Indiana Hoosiers quarterback Fernando Mendoza was left speechless at the 2026 NFL Combine when he was asked the most “bizarre question.”
Before the combine, Mendoza met with different NFL teams. CBS Sports asked the athlete about the craziest questions the teams asked.
Mendoza hesitated but then said, “It was, ‘Hey, maybe you should get arrested.'”
“I was a little confused, but then it was like the slide. So, hopefully I don’t get arrested,” he said.

Mendoza did not want to expose the team that asked that, but the team asked it in a joking manner so that Mendoza would “slide” down on the Draft order to hopefully be able to be picked up by said team.
The quarterback, the 2026 Heisman trophy winner, led his team to a perfect 16-0 season and won the National Championship for the first time in Indiana history. He is projected to be the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and is often compared to current Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.
No matter what order Mendoza gets drafted, it’s his faith that is the top priority in his life.
“Thank you to everybody. First, I want to thank God for giving me the opportunity to chase a dream that once felt the world away. Standing here tonight, holding this bad boy, representing Indiana University, still doesn’t feel real,” Mendoza said in his Heisman acceptance speech. “If you told me, as a kid in Miami, that I’d be here on stage, holding this prestigious trophy, I probably would have laughed, cried, like I’m doing now, or both. Because this moment, it’s an honor, it’s bigger than me. It’s a product of a family, team, community, and a whole lot of people who believed in me long before anybody knew my name.”
After the Hoosiers won the National Championship, Mendoza gave God all the glory.
“That’s one thing about our team. We’re always going to put it all on the line and, you know, I want to give all the glory and thanks to God there,” Mendoza told ESPN after the incredible win. “My offensive lineman blocked perfectly and we were able to execute as a team towards a common goal. Had the Indiana Hoosier synergy to score and then give our team a chance to win the game.”
It looks like Mendoza has a bright future ahead of him in the NFL, hopefully without getting arrested.
