Former NFL QB Brock Huard on Sharing Faith: ‘About Relationships’

Brock Huard, a sports broadcaster and former NFL quarterback, recently discussed why building relationships is important when talking about faith.
He reflected on what it means to be salt and light in the sports industry.
“If I think back to my early years so when I started like 15 years ago, especially in radio, and that medium…and that culture was very counter to my beliefs and my ideologies,” Huard said on the Sports Spectrum podcast. “I think at that time things were very personal. It was ‘I got to win this personal battle. I gotta win this personal fight…’ It was almost me against them…in conquering them and get[ting] them to see my view, versus, I think over time and maybe just with some wisdom certainly with some age… [being in] relationship. You got to be authentic.”
He added, “You’ve got to be…Can the Lord use one word you say to bring somebody to the Kingdom? Absolutely. But more than likely…they’re going to see your walk, they’re going to see your consistency, they’re going to see when it gets hard. They’re going to see, OK what this is really all about, and yeah, I think that’s probably some of the of the maturation over 15 years…It is about relationships…I think as I get older, that just wisdom of relationships probably resonates much more.”
In the NFL, Huard was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the third round of the 1999 NFL Draft. He spent several seasons with the league, including two seasons behind Peyton Manning.
After he retired from professional football, he transitioned into a successful career as a sports broadcaster and analyst.
He has worked for various media outlets, including ESPN and FOX Sports, providing commentary and analysis on college and professional football.
Huard also heads the “Above & Beyond: The Intersection of Faith and Sports” podcast, where he talks “one-on-one about trials and triumphs, struggles and perseverance.
