Actor Gary Sinise is sharing how his late son Mac relied on his faith as he battled cancer.

“He was a man of faith, of great faith,” Sinise told CBN News. “It was just inspiring to see how it helped sustain him through this cancer battle.”

Mac died earlier this year after battling a rare form of spine cancer. Movieguide® reported:

Actor and veteran advocate Gary Sinise’s son Mac died in January after battling severe medical problems.

Sinise wrote, “The week the album went to press, Mac lost his battle with cancer. He died on January 5, 2024 at 3:25pm, and was laid to rest on January 23rd. Like any family experiencing such a loss, we are heartbroken and have been managing as best we can. As parents, it is so difficult losing a child. My heart goes out to all who have suffered a similar loss, and to anyone who has lost a loved one. We’ve all experienced it in some way.”

Before he died, Mac was working on an album of original music, something that had been a dream of his since he was young.

“These pieces of music began a collaboration that expanded to a vision Mac had of doing an entire album of music entitled Resurrection & Revival, with a theme of bringing something that was old or unfinished back to life,” a statement read

Sinise shared, “He fulfilled his dream. He accomplished what he was looking to do, and he was happy at the end of his life, and that’s comforting for our family, for sure.”

The actor also explained how the family’s faith got them through Mac’s cancer battle, saying, “I know his faith played a strong part in helping to sustain him through this battle, and I was with him every step of the way. It was so helpful to have [faith], and to have our family have it and know that Mac, above all of us, that that was sustaining him.”

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Sinise said watching his son make this music at the end of his life “inspired” him.

“If telling his story can inspire others to just persevere through their own challenges and never quit, never give up, never give up living, then that’s a good thing. That’s a reason to share it,” he said. “I’m proud. I’m proud to be his dad.”
