‘God Is Good’: Jamie Foxx Returns To The Stage Following 2023 Hospitalization

By Movieguide® Contributor

Jamie Foxx is feeling “pure joy” after performing live on stage for the first time in 18 years.

“God is good,” the actor wrote in an Instagram post. “As I post these pictures, my heart and my soul is filled with nothing but pure joy…on October 3 fourth and fifth I had an opportunity to tell my side of the story and there was no better place than Atlanta Georgia.”

Foxx continued, “I have to thank you Atlanta you showed up and you showed out, I haven’t been on stage in 18 years but I needed the stage and I needed an audience that was made up of nothing but pure love and that’s what you were.”

He explained that his new one-man show, “One More Chance: An Evening With Jamie Foxx,” isn’t a stand-up comedy show, but “an artistic explanation…of something that went terribly wrong, but thanks to the great people in Atlanta especially piedmont hospital you enabled me to come back and be on stage and do what I love to do the most.”

Foxx was hospitalized in 2023 with an undisclosed medical issue. CNN reported that he underwent treatment at a physical rehab center in Chicago that “specializes in rehabilitation care for patients with physical impairments, brain or spine injuries.”

While the actor and comedian prefers to keep his private life private, Foxx did tell a group of people about the ordeal; the conversation was filmed and later put on TikTok.

He said he remembered having a “bad headache” and asking a friend for some Advil.

“I was gone for 20 days,” Foxx continued. “I don’t remember anything.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Foxx’s recovery and return to the stage:

Jamie Foxx just made his first return to the stage for a Netflix standup special after his health emergency last year.

“Join us for an unforgettable one-man show as Jamie Foxx takes the stage to share his journey through a serious health scare, filled with humor, heart, and inspiration!” he posted of the event on Instagram.

A video after the event shows Foxx celebrating with friends and those who helped put the show on.

“You landed on the moon, man. Be so proud,” Foxx said.

Per Variety, “Foxx shared, for the first time in depth, the story of the mysterious ailment that left him hospitalized in April 2023. But the circumstances around the show, titled ‘What Had Happened Was,’ were also unusual because he didn’t workshop the material in the typical way.”

“It was excruciating because — the worry is what gets you. Yeah, we’ve got a great show in the room, but we don’t know what they may laugh or what they may not laugh at,” Foxx explained of the show. “Usually, when you do a stand-up special, you go out for a year and work every nook and cranny, then you tape it. You don’t just show up in Atlanta and turn the camera on.”
