New England Patriots wide receiver DeMario “Pop” Douglas shared what he has learned about God during his time in the NFL.
“I had chapel, and I’ve learned, you know, my role had kind of went down just of, you know, with the vets that we had, and sometimes I was questioning it, but you know as I went to chapel, God was speaking to me, He was like, ‘You know, it’s going to be mountains, and to get up that mountain, you’re going to have to go through obstacles, and obstacles may get in the way, but you have to keep going to get to the top of that…that mountain,” the athlete told Sports Spectrum’s Jason Romano.

Douglas also shared how amazing it is to be on a team where so many guys are open about their faith.
“Man, it’s big, man. You know, like when J Mitch [James Mitchell] does those Soul Foods, and you know, chapel, man, it’s a blessing,” he said. “And to see how many people come in there, that’s how I know this team was going to be great in some form. I feel like God has been guiding this team. And I want to say shout out to, you know, J Mitch for getting the team together to, you know, get into the word.”

Douglas has Matthew 23:12 written in his Instagram bio, which discusses the importance of remaining humble and letting Christ be the leader of life.
The verse reads, “For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Douglas wasn’t a top pick going into the NFL Draft; in fact, he had to perform at the NFL combine. But his efforts paid off in 2023 when he was selected by “New England in the sixth round as the 210th overall pick. In his rookie season, he appeared in 14 games and ended the season with 561 yards and 49 receptions, the most by any rookie in the Bill Belichick era. In his second season, he notched his first career touchdown and finished with 66 receptions for 621 yards and three touchdowns,” per Liberty University.
If you were to ask Douglas if he ever thought he would be playing in a Super Bowl, he would say, “Absolutely.”
“Oh man, I expected to be here,” the wide receiver said, per Mass Live. “Not knowing when but definitely expected to be here. I knew at some point in my career, we’d be in these shoes.”
Douglas and the Patriots will play for Super Bowl LX on Sunday, Feb. 8, against the Seattle Seahawks. Douglas looks to make an impact on the field and let his faith shine.
