Greg Laurie: Is the Next Revival a Digital Spiritual Awakening?
By Tess Farrand, Associate Content Editor
Greg Laurie, pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship, asked if the next spiritual awakening will happen digitally.
“We scratch our heads and we wonder how to reach your generation — the millennials, Generation Z — and sometimes people decry the fact that so many in your generation are glued to your phones, to your tablets,” Laurie said in an IGTV video.
“But here’s the question I want to ask: Is it possible that the next spiritual awakening could happen on a screen?” Laurie continued.
The Jesus Revolution author’s question certainly begs for a healthy dose of curiosity.
During COVID-19, churches all across the globe look to creative ways to gather and support one another. One of the primary ways churches are worshipping together is through online services streamed live on social media and other platforms.
Laurie, who resides in California and is still under stay at home orders, said he looks forward to in-person worship, but that doesn’t mean God isn’t moving.
“We’ve been forced to, well, close the doors of the church building. But the doors for the church as a whole have never been more open.”
Perhaps quarantine will produce a spiritual boom as people seek the Lord to answer their questions about the virus. These digital platforms have created a mission field that is ripe for harvest.
