Remember BLUE BLOODS’ Jack Reagan, Danny Raegan’s son?
His appearances were infrequent throughout the series until the character finally went off to college in Season 9, Episode 5, TVLine reported.
The real reason the character left is because the young man who played him, Tony Terraciano, decided to go to college, too.
He studied at Vanderbilt University before enrolling at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York.

His appearances became less frequent leading up to his departure. Terraciano grew up on TV, and it’s understandably hard to balance full-time school with a demanding show like BLUE BLOODS.
In the same direction as Terraciano, Jack’s character in spinoff BOSTON BLUE is said to be somewhere in Africa, working with Doctors Without Borders.
“It’s a big deal that Jack is overseas and that he’s in medical school,” showrunner Brandon Sonnier said. He added, “We never want to lose sight of the fact that Danny has two sons. Part of placing Jack so far away was logistical — it gives Danny the space to fully focus on Sean right now, because there’s not a lot he can do for Jack.”
He added that Jack is now “doing fine” and “thriving” in Africa, taking notes from his family’s “duty to serve.” “This felt like a way for Jack to follow that calling — while being far enough away, for now, to serve the story we’re telling,” he said.
Terraciano’s real brother, Andrew, played Sean in BLUE BLOODS. His role has been recast in BOSTON BLUE by Mika Amonsen.
“I had somebody call me — actually the day that I was graduating — and they had spoken to my mom and she called me [crying]. They were like, ‘They might be looking for a different Sean,’” Andrew told US Magazine in December. “Shortly after we got the news, Donnie [Wahlberg] called me. It was a really beautiful moment of getting to hear from an old friend but also somebody that you respect so much and have learned so much from.”
Andrew said, “It doesn’t mean for even a second that somebody else can’t go and do something beautiful with it. I got the joy of playing Sean, and I got to send him off into the world.”
He’s happy that joy gets to be shared with someone else now.
He explained, “We’re both getting to show what we do and then send Sean off into the world.”
While the Terraciano boys won’t be in the show anymore, fans may get to see their characters in BOSTON BLUE. The next episode, “Family Secrets,” comes out March 6.
