How God Transformed Tennis Icon’s Heart After Baby No. 2

Though tennis legend Serena Williams was initially scared that she would not be able to love another child as much as her firstborn, Olympia, God has transformed her heart.
“Olympia is always there for me. Before having a second child, I always wondered, ‘How could I love anything as much as I love @olympiaohanian? Then Adira came along… she is so special, so fun, so funny, so loving, so sweet and so strong!!! You see, God makes your heart get bigger,” Williams wrote in an Instagram post celebrating Adira’s first birthday with photos of when she was pregnant with her second.
“Because my love for Olympia has not dimmed. My heart simply now is double the size and I have a greater capacity to love more!” Williams continued.
Williams gave birth to Adira on August 15, 2023. She and her husband, Alexis, began trying for a second child after Williams retired from professional tennis to focus on her family.
“There comes a time in life when we have to decide to move in a different direction,” Williams said in 2022 when she announced she was retiring. “That time is always hard when you love something so much. My goodness do I enjoy tennis. But now, the countdown has begun. I have to focus on being a mom, my spiritual goals and finally discovering a different, but just a exciting Serena.”
In May 2023, she announced she was pregnant in a cute video where she revealed her family had been praying for another child.
“Remember how you’ve been praying for a little sister or brother,” Williams asked her daughter. “We went to the doctor, and it turns out I’m not getting fat but I have a baby in my belly.”
“Are you kidding me?” Olympia answered excitedly before hugging both of her parents. “I’m so excited!”
