How Playing Jesus on THE CHOSEN Has Blessed This Star
By Movieguide® Contributor
Jonathan Roumie explained how working on THE CHOSEN has been such a blessing in his life and how ministering to others has filled his soul.
“Everything I do starts with prayer. So for me, [starting on THE CHOSEN] was about just praying that God would use me as a vessel to communicate His spirit in this story in a way that is so beautifully written by Dallas and his team and to communicate,” Roumie told TBN. “The love and compassion of Christ and the mercy of God to humanity and just try not to get in the way of that.”
Since the show has found its record-breaking success, Roumie has been humbled when he realizes just how much of an impact THE CHOSEN has had on its viewers.
“It’s humbling, it’s awe-inspiring, it’s kind of incredible to think that you could be a part of something that is so tangibly and substantially effective on people’s personal and spiritual lives,” he said. “It’s just, every day, [Dallas Jenkins and I] both get letters and messages and emails.”
“I was in line, getting a cup of coffee at my favorite donut shop in Los Angeles the other day, and there was two young women hanging out and one was wearing a mask that said ‘Happy Easter.’ And I said, ‘I like your mask,’ and she’s like, ‘Oh, thanks.’ And I said — I happened to be wearing a CHOSEN hoodie, which is a really awesome piece of gear — and I said, ‘Have you seen the show?’” Roumie continued. “And she’s like, ‘What show?’ I said, ‘The show THE CHOSEN.’ And her friend was like, ‘The show? You’re Jonathan Roumie!’ I’m like, ‘Whoa. I wasn’t expecting that.’ And she immediately started breaking into tears. She’s like, ‘You have no idea how this show has ministered to me in my life the past year. I went through some super difficult times. Thank you.’ She just couldn’t stop thanking me.”
Roumie has been extremely vocal about his gratitude to the Lord for allowing THE CHOSEN to be so successful and saving Roumie from a place in his life where he saw no path forward. The cast of the show has been just as ministered to as the millions of fans who have had their lives changed by THE CHOSEN.
Movieguide® previously reported:
In an interview with Movieguide®’s Evy Baehr Carroll, Jonathan Roumie of THE CHOSEN said he feels his journey was “designed” by God.
“I believe that God has had this plan for me from the time I was 12 years old,” said Roumie of playing Jesus in the breakout hit series THE CHOSEN.
Movieguide® previously reported how Roumie had next to nothing when he was about to give up his dream. It was when he surrendered everything to God that the Lord provided even more than he could imagine.
Now, Roumie said, “I found my mission, so I don’t stress about how I’m being taken care of, even in a pandemic I put all my faith, my trust in God.”
The actor had always had faith in God but revealed that his faith grew “exponentially” while working on THE CHOSEN.
The star uses his newfound platform to share his faith, and said he’s even been called a “media apostle.”
THE CHOSEN just wrapped filming Season 5, which will focus exclusively on Holy Week.
“Season 5 will be the most expansive yet for THE CHOSEN,” Collider reported. “Holy Week is the most sacred week in the Christian calendar, commemorating the final days of Jesus Christ’s life on earth, leading up to his crucifixion and resurrection. It begins on Palm Sunday and culminates on Easter Sunday. Each day of Holy Week has its own significance, often marked by special services and rituals in various Christian denominations.”
No official release date has been announced yet, though Collider speculated, “If Season 5 follows a similar release pattern as season 4, we can expect to see the new episodes in early to mid-2025.”
