Sadie Robertson Huff discussed the difficulty of knowing what God’s plan is for our lives and how to faithfully walk His path despite this uncertainty.

“How do I know the will of God for my life? We tend to really overthink that question, and it almost cripples us because we’re so scared,” Huff said. “‘What if I make the wrong decision or the wrong move?’ God is in all of it. He’s in the open doors, He’s in the closed doors. He’s in the exciting  parts and the not so exciting parts.”

“You’re not gonna know when you’re 21, 25, 28. You’re just not gonna know sometimes, but you just keep making the next right decision and you keep pursuing the Lord and all of a sudden you look up and you go, ‘Woah, God, your hand was on me the whole time. Well, I didn’t realize when I was waiting tables and I was, you know, sharing the word with that guy that one day I was gonna be a pastor and that was the start of…discipline. That was the start of learning and being eager to grow,’” she continued.

“Another thing [my husband] and I have walked through this year that’s helped so much is like not being on the defense with our faith but being on the offense… Like, let’s just read the word. We don’t know how this is gonna pan out later, but I’m gonna read it now so I have it tucked away in my heart for later,” Huff emphasized.

This truth appears time and time again throughout the Bible as heroes of the faith do not know what God will do next in their lives but trust that He is in control, and if they faithfully pursue Him, they cannot mess up His plan. Moses, for example, did not see himself as a leader, but by trusting in God, he saved his people and led them out of Egypt.

Huff, however, knows just how hard it can be to trust in the Lord when life is uncertain as just a few years ago, she found herself crippled by anxiety as she tried to figure out her life.

“Fear is a normal human reaction, you’re going to be afraid of things that are scary,” she previously said. “I don’t really think that you should live fearless, I think if you don’t have any fear, you don’t have much wisdom.”

“You’re going to feel the emotion of fear, that’s a normal thing, but there’s a difference in feeling it and almost like bowing to it and living in it,” she added. “I think, you know, for a time in my life I was bowing to it, like fear was driving the ship of my life. If I felt afraid, I wasn’t doing it. If I felt afraid, I was getting out of the room.”

While it is not always easy to trust God when fear and anxiety creep into our lives, it is still amazing to know that the Lord has a plan for us and we can trust that He works all things for good.
