INCREDIBLES 3 has a new release window.

INCREDIBLES 3 is expected to come out sometime in 2028, over two decades after the first movie’s 2004 release date, Screen Rant reported.

The sequel, 2018’s INCREDIBLES 2, earned Disney Pixar $1.2 billion worldwide. Plot details for the third movie are under wraps, and the long timeline should give creators plenty of time to craft a good story.

Brad Bird wrote and directed both prior INCREDIBLES movies. For the third movie, he will return as the writer but will let ELEMENTAL’s Peter Sohn take over directing duties while he executive produces, Hypebeast reported. The Hollywood Reporter said the reason Bird will not direct is because he’s been at work on Skydance’s RAY GUNN.

Sohn and Bird have worked on several movies together, including both of THE INCREDIBLES movies. Bird specifically chose Sohn to direct the third movie.

Part of Movieguide®’s review for INCREDIBLES 2 reads, “INCREDIBLES 2 is a fun, exciting, family-friendly superhero movie. INCREDIBLES 2 has a strong moral worldview about doing the right thing. The movie also stresses family learning to work together, no matter what the circumstances.”

“Some situations seem a bit mature, though,” the review continues. “For example, Elastigirl and Mr. Incredible tackle serious questions about parenthood and raising children. Also, the main villain may be scary for younger children, and there’s light but brief foul language. That said, INCREDIBLES 2 has lots of wit, humor, adventure, and heart.”

Pixar chief creative officer Pete Docter also announced MONSTERS, INC. 3 is also in early development, as is COCO 2, and some originals: an unnamed musical directed by Domee Shi, GATTO and ONO GHOST MARKET, Cartoon Brew reported.

ONO GHOST MARKET is inspired by “Asian myths about supernatural bazaars where the living and dead interact,” The Hollywood Reporter said. COCO 2 is expected to release in 2029.

Docter said he wants to “re-embrace the universally relatable concepts like talking toys and monsters in the closet that once made it a juggernaut. As time’s gone on, I realized my job is to make sure the films appeal to everybody. If we’re going to just crank crap out, let’s shut the doors. I’d rather die trying to make something that we genuinely believe in.”

Docter also clarified this week that Pixar will not be using LGBTQ storylines anymore. Noting that certain storylines could force parents to have conversations with their kids that either aren’t ready to have, he said, “We’re making a movie, not hundreds of millions of dollars of therapy.”

Pixar will certainly be more successful if it sticks to these standards. We hope it does.
