By Movieguide® Contributor
TYSON’S RUN, an independent picture about an autistic boy who wants to be a marathon runner, earned a spot on Netflix’s top 10 list for global movies in October.
“After theatrical releases in the US and Latin America, the inspiring independently-produced TYSON’S RUN has secured a significant position as the 8th most-watched film on Netflix, in its first week of streaming, with over 3.1 million views,” Planet 9 Productions announced in a press release.
The movie sits in the top 10 English-speaking movies on Netflix worldwide, with three weeks in the top ten in Costa Rica, Peru and Chile and two weeks in Columbia. U.S. viewers will get a chance to see it on Netflix on February 28, 2024.
Movieguide®’s review of TYSON’S RUN reads:
TYSON’S RUN is a heartfelt movie. It brings awareness to some of the struggles that children on the spectrum go through in everyday life. Tyson is bullied in school, but he doesn’t let his haters bring him down. The movie stresses sacrifice and the importance of fatherhood. Forgiveness and faith are on display as Tyson and his parents enter uncharted waters together. TYSON’S RUN has brief foul language and moments of peril. So, Movieguide® advises caution for younger children.
John Cappetta, founder of Planet 9 Productions, said, “TYSON’S RUN earning a spot in Netflix’s Top 10 this month is a testament to the potential for independent and diverse films in today’s entertainment landscape.”
He continued, “We have always been proud of this film, but we couldn’t be more thrilled to see the audience numbers coming out of Latin America as we look toward the US streaming release early next year; and as we continue to make and release entertaining and impactful films going forward.”
TYSON’S RUN earned second place for Best Family and Kids Movies of 2022 on Ranker.com.
Screen Rant reported on the reasons for the movie’s success: “Tyson’s Run is remarkable for a number of reasons, not least is the fact that it includes an autistic person as its main character, a young man who strives to become a successful marathon runner. What’s more, it also manages to become more than just a regular sports movie.”
