‘It’s Tough’: Cameron Mathison Talks Becoming an ‘Empty Nester’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Actor Cameron Mathison isn’t “ready” to be an empty nester.
“It’s tough,” Mathison told PEOPLE of his kids getting older. “I’m about to be an empty nester. My kids are older, my daughter’s leaving.”
Mathison shares son Lucas and daughter Leila with his wife, Vanessa Arevalo.
The actor said watching his kids grow up is “the best thing in the world” but added, “But at the same time, I don’t think I’m ready. I mean, you think you are. You’re like, ‘Oh, it’s going to be awesome,’ but I’m going to miss them.”
Mathison recently celebrated a major milestone with his daughter — her senior prom.
“Leila, I want you to know that you are always on my mind and in my heart,” he captioned a series of photos of the pair. “I’m so grateful for every moment I get to spend with you, and remember no matter where life takes you always know that you are loved beyond measure. You are such an incredible daughter and I’m so proud of the person you have become.”
The former ALL MY CHILDREN star has previously spoken about the importance of fatherhood, telling Parade, “Being a father was probably the biggest, most impactful change of my life.”
“So many of us try to be truly other-centric and learn to cherish others,” he continued. “It’s such a big part of the meaning of life. And when I had kids, I really got a sense of what it truly meant to be purely other-centric and cherish them much more than myself. That is such a beautiful lesson in itself.”
