Browns QB Depended on God for Game-Winning Touchdown: ‘Thank You, Jesus’

Cleveland Browns quarterback Jameis Winston hasn’t started in an NFL game since Sept. 25, 2022.

After the team’s regular quarterback Deshaun Watson tore his Achilles, Winston got to start against the Baltimore Ravens, a likely pick for this year’s Super Bowl, this past Sunday.

Before the game, Winston took his team to the side and gave them a touching pregame speech.

“Eyes have not seen, ears have not heard, what the Lord got for the Cleveland Browns,” he began. “We don’t have to see instant gratification! We don’t have to see something good happening for us! We gotta believe! We gotta have that unwavering faith, and I got that! You got one opportunity! You got one opportunity to make the most of it men, and I believe in my crew. Who win?”

That speech aged superbly for the quarterback.

He threw “the game-winning touchdown in the Browns’ 29-24 upset victory over the Baltimore Ravens to end a five-game losing streak,” ESPN reported.

Winston “completed 27 of 41 passes for 334 yards — a franchise record for a quarterback in a Browns debut — and three touchdowns, including the 38-yard, go-ahead score to wide receiver Cedric Tillman with 59 seconds remaining,” the outlet continued.

“Unwavering faith. Ultimate belief. Depending on the Lord and depending on the Lord should have been first. He gets all the glory. Thank You, Jesus,” Winston said after the game of what was going through his mind.

“I thought he played well,” Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said of Winston’s performance. “I thought the protection was outstanding all day. The guys really took the challenge of that, and I thought he got through his reads and guys got open. He made good decisions. Wasn’t perfect. He’s not going to play perfect. I’m not going to coach perfect. But I thought he played well.”

“He brought great energy,” Tillman added. “Jameis kept telling us that he’s going to keep throwing it. He’s going to keep coming back to us no matter what. He played great today.”
