Country artist Jelly Roll celebrated his recent Grammy nominations, giving the glory to God.
“When I was in Australia, I woke up and we were nominated for three [Grammys],” he said in a recent Instagram video. “When I made it to my first Grammys, I was [nominated] for New Artist, I thought to myself, ‘This is the only time I’ll ever be at the Grammys.’ And to be coming back three years later with more nominations that I’ve ever had is just — first of all, the gratitude.”
Jelly Roll continued, “God will take something that’s either normal and make it extremely abnormal, or He will take something that’s already incredible and make it absolutely mesmerizing, and that’s the case here. Not only did God bring me back here in the best headspace…but He brought me here with the right kind of message.”
“When I look at these nominations, all I see is God,” he concluded.

The country singer’s album Beautifully Broken was nominated for Best Contemporary Country Album, while singles “Amen” and “Hard Fought Hallelujah” with Brandon Lake were nominated for Best Country Duo/Group Performance and Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song, respectively.
“Hard Fought Hallelujah” was Lake’s first Top 40 hit, and he spoke to the Associated Press about the song’s popularity.
“It’s the marriage of awesome production with an awesome message. A message of hope,” he shared. “There is strength that can be found, and hope that can be found, in the midst of the hell that you are walking through. And then you pair that with like an awesome sound and it’s like, who’s not going to love that?”
Lake continued, “I think it is a crossover moment and I pray that it is. I’m trying to cross over, into any and every space that God will allow that is authentic to who I am. I grew up on country music; I grew up on Christian music…And if you listen to my music, it is very diverse, you know? Quote-unquote Christian music, worship music…it doesn’t really make sense having a genre, because it’s what we do with our lives. It’s not a sound.”
“Hard Fought Hallelujah” also won Song of the Year at this year’s GMA Dove Awards.
“The world is hearing about Jesus right now like they haven’t heard in generations. But put faith on your feet and feet on your faith,” Jelly Roll said during his acceptance speech. “They’ve heard of Jesus…now show ’em Jesus. Go feed the poor, love the broken, visit the prisoners. We’re done talking. It’s time to show them.”
Jelly Roll’s music might have earned him this recent round of Grammy nominations, but for the country singer, all the glory goes to God.
