Jenny Marrs Reflects on Berry Farm: ‘So Much Bigger Than Ourselves’
By Movieguide® Contributor
FIXER TO FABULOUS’ Jenny Marrs is sharing the work her family does through their Berry Farm.
“In this week’s episode, you got to see a peek into our family’s blueberry farm and the work we have been doing through it for over a decade,” she wrote on Instagram. “Our small blueberry farm has taught us that we can do something bigger than ourselves.”
Marrs explained that The Berry Farm works to “fund an agricultural and vocational skills training program for orphaned and at-risk teens in rural Zimbabwe. This village and these kids are near and dear to our family, and we are blown away by the fact that our little farm tucked away here in the Ozarks is a part of bridging the gap for kids we love across the sea to transition successfully into adulthood.”
She also revealed that she and her husband, Dave, did not initially want to partner with HGTV for a TV show, citing worries about losing privacy and changing their children’s lives.
“Yet, we remembered our WHY,” Marrs continued. “We knew that the work of The Berry Farm — work we are passionate about — could be highlighted through a television show. We knew that if God gave us a platform to share about this work, more lives could be impacted and changed. So we said yes.”
Marrs wrote, “When the days are especially long or hard or the behind-the-screen critics are particularly harsh, Dave will simply look at me and say: ‘Remember WHY.’ With that one word, my perspective shifts and my spirit settles. I know God doesn’t need our family to do this work. Yet, the fact that we get to be part of something so much bigger than ourselves is humbling, soul-gratifying, and life-giving. It’s our unequivocal WHY.”
The Marrs family has often spoken about their work through The Berry Farm.
“We aren’t looking to solve long-stemming issues of hunger and poverty with a short-term investment,” Dave said via their website. “We are committed to the long-haul with these kids. We want to sow seeds of truth and righteousness and love. The fruit that will result will be long-lasting: eternal.”
In an Instagram post, Jenny wrote that The Berry Farm “has taught us that we can do something bigger than ourselves.”
Movieguide® previously reported on the Marrs’ farm:
Jenny Marrs shared a photo of her family walking the grounds of her and her husbands berry farm.
She wrote, “I’ve lost track of the laps we’ve prayed and walked around @theberryfarm_bentonvilleover the years. This soil has bold prayers and big dreams burrowed deep within.”
The Marrs family owns The Berry Farm and donates all proceeds to children around the world to better their lives.
She added, “Last night, we prayed in the fields for Berry Fest and for our dear friends doing the hard work in Zimbabwe. We prayed for this farm to be a place of refuge and peace and light in our community. We prayed for the families who will join us on Saturday and for the families across the globe who will be impacted because of our little farm tucked away in the Ozarks. What a wild, unbelievable thing this is. The work isn’t easy but it is absolutely worth it. I love that we get to do this. 💙
