Christian Singer Celebrates Successful Heart Surgery With Some Fun

By Movieguide® Contributor

Jeremy Camp had some fun in a recent interview with The Wally Show when he was given hypothetical situations to test the strength of his heart following a surgery last March.

“So what we’re going to do is I’m going to give you some scenarios and we’re going to see if it raises your heart beat at all,” Walley explained.

“Your wife Adrienne comes to you and calmly asks you to sit down. She’s pacing back and forth, she’s kind of stumbling all over her words and you’re getting nervous,” Wally continued. “You’re telling her, ‘Just say it. Whatever it is I can handle it,’ and she blurts out ‘I’m pregnant.’”

“I’m having a heart attack,” Camp joked as his heartbeat did start to quicken. He admitted that he was getting a little sweaty thinking about that happening even though he loves his children.

Movieguide® previously reported on the singer’s surgery:

Grammy award-nominated artist Jeremy Camp and his family are asking fans to pray for him following his recent surgery to correct his atrial fibrillation (AFib).

“I debated telling everybody this, but for some reason, just felt like I should tell everybody because I have a lot of people saying, ‘What can we be praying for you?’” he posted on Instagram before the surgery.

“There’s a lot of prayer warriors out there. A lot of people who have been praying for me for different things, and I’m super thankful for it. So, I want to bring this up with intention. I actually have surgery on Monday,” the singer revealed.

According to the Mayo Clinic, “Atrial fibrillation (AFib) is an irregular and often very rapid heart rhythm. An irregular heart rhythm is called an arrhythmia. AFib can lead to blood clots in the heart. The condition also increases the risk of stroke, heart failure and other heart-related complications.”

Camp underwent a cardiac ablation, which will use “heat or cold energy to create tiny scars in the heart. The scars block faulty heart signals and restore a typical heartbeat.”

“Speaking of your kids, your older daughter Bella brings home a new guy she wants you to meet,” Wally said, starting the next scenario. “You say ‘Hello’ and he says, ‘Sup, yo.’ So you kind of know what you’re dealing with… He’s never had a job nor does he plan to. He wants to be a YouTube star… He plans to not ask your permission either to ask Bella to marry him, instead he wants to live stream them eloping, and he’s vegan.”

After finishing the scenario, Wally pulled a joke by making the heartrate monitor flatline and making it appear that meeting the guy caused Camp to have a heart attack. Camp played along and slid down his seat, pretending to pass out.

This lighthearted fun came a couple of months after Camp had undergone surgery to address his atrial fibrillation (AFib), a condition that causes an irregular heartbeat. The surgery, which took place last March, went smoothly, and Camp was on tour only a week later.

While the surgery and condition ended up not having a lasting impact on Camp, the thought of how it could have impacted him led him closer to God.

“Realizing that my life is in God’s hands, literally, like coming to grips with that. I can’t control it. I can do the best I can with my health, the best you can with protecting your family, protecting things or whatever. But ultimately, God is in control and He loved us more than we even know,” Camp said ahead of the surgery.

“And so, for me, I feel like He’s stripping apart every little ounce of control that I think I have in literally making me rely so much more on Him in a beautiful way,” he continued. “And it’s been so, so rich, and it’s drawing me a lot closer to Jesus.”

Camp will go back on tour this September.

His story about how he got started in music is told in I STILL BELIEVE. Part of Movieguide®’s review reads:

I STILL BELIEVE is the poignant true story of the famous Christian singer Jeremy Camp’s marriage to Melissa. Jeremy leaves his home to go to college in California, where his music idol, Jean-Luc, went. At a concert, he meets Jean-Luc, tells him how much he adores his music and asks him for help with his career. Jean-Luc gives Jeremy a job to hand him his second guitar during the performance. During a concert, Jeremy falls for a young student named Melissa. As the story progresses, Jean-Luc helps Jeremy with his career, and Melissa falls in love with Jeremy. When Jeremy goes home for Christmas, he finds out Melissa is in hospital for stage 3 cancer.

I STILL BELIEVE is a beautiful movie. It’s very well edited and captivating, although it even violates some rules of filmmaking. Melissa’s struggling with cancer is extremely painful. Jeremy’s commitment shows an incredible manifestation of Christian sacrificial love. The music is great, especially the last end credit song to Jesus. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger children for I STILL BELIEVE because of the heartrending scenes of Melissa’s cancer.
