Jeremy Renner Says Snowplow Accident Helped Him Realize ‘What Has Real Value’

A little over a year after his horrific snowplow accident, AVENGERS star Jeremy Renner is back in action, something reflected in his Super Bowl ad that aired last weekend.

His ad for Silk, an alternative milk company, followed Renner as he created his morning protein shake. The commercial featured the actor slicing strawberries in midair and dancing on the table. It also included his daughter, Ava, as she goes about her own morning routine.

“I think it’s a representation of the recovery,” Renner told The Hollywood Reporter about his ad. “A few days after the anniversary of the accident, my daughter and I were just looking at each other like: How far we’ve come. What a wonderful celebration.”

Movieguide® previously reported on the accident:

Actor Jeremy Renner was rushed to the hospital and is in critical condition after a snow plow accident, Deadline first reported.

The AVENGERS actor, 51, reportedly suffered injuries “after experiencing a weather-related accident while plowing snow earlier today.”

“His family is with him and he is receiving excellent care,” one representative said.

The actor was clearing snow out of his driveway when he got out of the plow. It started to move on its own and ran over Renner, injuring his chest and legs.

“Early on, I told [Ava] to wait for me, because she saw me busted up with 38 broken bones. I said, ‘If you wait for me, I promise you I’ll get better,’” he added. “I had somebody to get better for – this little girl. And then, here we are, with Silk, getting to celebrate this, man. This feels deep, spiritually and emotionally for us; my entire family. And I hope that will resonate and bring joy to other people.”

Renner also hopes that the ad will help people understand that he is back and ready for action.

“Doing television is quite arduous. It’s long hours and lot of heavy lifting. So I’m just focusing on this right now, and will see how I come out at the end of it,” he said. “My number one priority is still my recovery and strengthening and just getting better, internally and externally, every day. And it has to be, to be able to work and participate in life in the world again. I’m allowing my body to dictate what I can and cannot do.”

“[I’m doing] probably 90 percent of all the things I needed to be doing…I think another six months will be hopefully running [more] … I got to set goals for myself,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “I’ll do whatever I can, whatever it takes to get better, to get stronger. It’s a one-way street, this recovery. The rest of my life is about health and wellness.”

He is also allowing his new perspective to dictate his life as he focuses on his family and legacy more intentionally than before.

“I’m spending more time with the RennerVation Foundation. Rehabbing houses takes a whole lot of time. To be honest with you, I think one of the big reasons why I was spared is my love for children and wanting to help children,” Renner said.

“This foundation being started is going to be my vehicle to be able to do that, and do it in a very bit way, in a very effective way,” he continued. “So my attention’s on that, and will be on that for the rest of my days.”

“I had a wonderful blessing in this accident. Dying and coming back. I got that time out of life, I got to put pause on life, and go really live life,” Renner added. “And [I think] how can I give this to people? I think we had a little bit of it in COVID, right? There was a global epidemic going on, but the silver lining in that is we got to put pause on something, we got to stop and chill out, and ask what has value in our lives…There’s a wonderful gift in that, if you can hang on to that superpower of [realizing] what has real value in our lives.”

Just over 13 months after his near-fatal snowplow accident, AVENGERS star Jeremy Renner informed fans that he will be ready to play Hawkeye again if the opportunity came around.

“I’m always game. I’m gonna be strong enough, that’s for sure,” Renner said of the role. “I’ll be ready. All those guys come to my bedside, and they’ve been with me all along through this recovery, so…if they want me, they could have me. It would be something.”

Deadline reported, “Renner has played the role of Clint Barton across the MCU in films like 2011’s THOR, 2012’s THE AVENGERS, 2015’s AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, 2016’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, 2019’s AVENGERS: ENDGAME and 2021’s BLACK WIDOW. Additionally, he starred in the Disney+ series HAWKEYE.”

The actor isn’t back to full strength yet, though. He told Entertainment Tonight, “[I’m doing] probably 90 percent of all the things I needed to be doing…I think another six months will be hopefully running [more] … I got to set goals for myself.”
