Jerry Lee Lewis Was ‘Ready to Be With Jesus’ at the Time of His Death
By Movieguide® Staff
The music icon Jerry Lee Lewis died October 28 at the age of 87.
While the singer lived a life of sin early in his career, Lewis eventually repented and became a man of great faith.
Lewis is known for his hits like “Great Balls Of Fire” and “Whole Lot Of Shakin’ Going On.” He also recorded country albums like Sunday Down South and In Loving Memories.
He grew up in the church and even attended the Southwest Bible Institute before launching his music career. The singer frequently spoke about his faith and salvation.
“I love God, I love Jesus Christ, and I worship the precious, precious, precious Holy Ghost,” Lewis told The Guardian. “But I love living, breathing, I thank God for that all the time.”
He continued, “I was always worried whether I was going to Heaven or Hell. I still am. I worry about it before I go to bed; it’s a very serious situation. I mean you worry, when you breathe your last breath, where are you going to go.”
Dylan Novak, the Celebrity Evangelist, shared a personal story about his meeting with Lewis.
“I was able to meet Mr. Lewis after his last concert in South Carolina in 2019,” he wrote. “As he was looking at his gift [given by Novak] he pulled out a tract that said, ‘How To Make Sure You’re Going To Heaven.’ He got really excited and said to his wife, ‘He knew exactly what I needed!’ We had a wonderful conversation about salvation.”

Shortly before his death, Lewis’ wife Judith said he was “ready to be with Jesus.”
Lewis did not live a godly life, but his Christian faith in his later years was truly impressive. Please pray for his friends and family as they mourn Lewis’ passing.
