TRACKER Star Justin Hartley Reveals What’s Next for His Character
By Movieguide® Contributor
Justin Hartley revealed what is next for his character Colter Shaw after he solved a decade-long case involving his sister, which he has put all his energy towards.
“I think he just retires,” Hartley joked with Parade before adding, “there’s a healing process. Probably right now, for the first time in 10 years, he’s unburdened by something. When you come across people like that, what happens is they sort of evolve.”
“They had this thing that was weighing on them for that long; a decade’s a long time. And, all of a sudden, it’s no longer there and you have a couple of things that happen,” he continued. “Sometimes, there’s a psychological, bodily reaction, a relief. And then there’s also this thing you’ve had for 10 years that you no longer have, and now you’re looking for a purpose and redefining what you’re doing and why.”

Hartley believes that this transformation will largely take place within his relationships as Shaw learns to let his walls down and allow people in rather then remaining a shut off lone wolf, as he has lived in the past.
“He’s not unlike a lot of people that I know in that they set their life up in a way that they can’t be hurt,” Hartley said, explaining that he and the writers are cognizant of allowing the character to evolve but making sure he does so at a realistic pace, rather than changing him all at once.
After briefly reconnecting with an ex-girlfriend as he solved this major case, Hartley also believes that Shaw’s love life will begin to heal after receiving the closure he needed.
“It’s going to take some time,” Hartley said. “But people always say, ‘I’m never doing that again,’ but then inevitably, they do. So I think we’ll see. I think right now, it’s just not something he’s entertaining.”
Movieguide® celebrated TRACKER’s biblical worldview while also advising caution about its secular leanings:
The first two episodes of season two of TRACKER balances moments of moral clarity with Colter’s efforts to protect the vulnerable and do what’s right against more ambiguous actions such as breaking the law to solve cases. The series weaves in biblical themes of helping others and standing up for the weak but also touches on darker elements like violence, light profanity, and hints of immorality, including sex outside of marriage. Overall, it’s a thrilling return, though due to some of the show’s content, discernment is recommended for older children.
