Kansas City Chiefs Owner Points to God After AFC Championship Victory Over Bengals

By Movieguide® Contributor

Kansas City Chiefs owner and CEO, Clark Hunt, praised God after his team’s 23-20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals to send his team to their third Superbowl in four seasons.

“The Lord has blessed our family in so many ways including with the best fan base in the National Football League, and there’s nothing better than getting to celebrate this with you guys!” Hunt said during the trophy presentation.

Hunt has long used his position and the success of his team to glorify God. He has also made faith a top priority within his organization.

“We want our employees to develop spiritually,” Hunt said at a Luncheon in 2019, per the Tyler Morning Telegraph, “In the National Football League, Christ is really glorified. My identity is my faith in Christ.”

Former Chief Stefen Wisniewski was attracted to the Chiefs when he saw the effect Hunt’s faith had on the organization, according to Sports Spectrum, it was one of the reasons Wisniewski signed with them.

“There’s definitely a lot of Christians in the organization,” Wisniewski told Sports Spectrum at Super Bowl LIV, “and when it starts at the top, that’s pretty powerful, with the owner, he kind of sets it up from there.”

Hunt’s focus on faith reaches beyond those immediately inside his organization. Since 2014, the Chiefs have offered fans a pregame chapel service as a supplement for those who miss their normal services to make the 12:00 kickoff.

“[Our fans] were getting there at 9 or 10 in the morning,” Hunt told CBN, “I [knew] many of our fans were not getting to church because they were focused on getting to the game early to beat the traffic and tailgate. I was like, boy, wouldn’t it be great if we could have a chapel service for them.”

It is encouraging to see Hunt use his position of influence to point others toward Christ. Despite his team’s sustained success in recent years, Hunt has not lost sight of the One who put him in this position.

Movieguide® has highlighted Hunt’s faith before previous Super Bowls:

Although Hunt isn’t on the field every weekend for the team, he’s Kansas City Chiefs’ CEO and is committed to his faith.

“We want our employees to develop spiritually,” Hunt said. “In the National Football League, Christ is really glorified. My identity is my faith in Christ,” reported the Tyler Morning Telegraph.

After the team won the AFC Championship, Hunt thanked God at the trophy presentation: “I want to thank the Lord for blessing us, the Glory belongs to Him.”
