Kansas City Chiefs Share Their Faith: ‘Giving Glory to God’

The Kansas City Chiefs are boldly sharing their faith and how it influences their lives and, hopefully, the lives of others.

“It’s important to me every single day it’s not about football. It’s just giving glory to God for being able to walk around and live my life, to have a beautiful family, to be able to have [an] impact on others,” quarterback Patrick Mahomes said in a video shared by TBN. “And I’m going to use that stage and that platform, win or lose, to give glory back to Him. To hopefully bring others closer to Him, that they can have the same love for life that I have.”

Mahomes has previously spoken about his faith, telling FSPN it “plays a role in everything that I do.”

“I feel like I’ve grown in my faith these last few years and I think that’s given me more sense of who I am and why I play the game,” he continued, “It just kind of relieves the pressure of playing a football game because I know that I’m on that football field to glorify Him before everything. So it’s not about winning or losing, it’s about going out there and being the best that I can in His name.”

Kicker Harrison Butker said his faith has made him “a better husband” and “better father,” as well as brings peace into his life.

“I think the biggest thing is Jesus will bring you a lot of peace in your life,” he said. “And if I want to be at my best, it’s going to be hard when I’m anxious and nervous. So having that peace has been very helpful.”

Butker elaborated on that in an interview before this year’s Super Bowl, saying, “Whenever I feel super nervous or anxious, that’s definitely when I turn to God more than any other time.”

“I’m very thankful for that,” he continued. “In some ways, I view being an NFL kicker on this stage as a way that God has called me to turn to Him more often. I think if I wasn’t experiencing stress and anxiety and all these things, maybe I wouldn’t lean on Him.”

Linebacker Nick Bolton said, “Faith is always first and foremost in everything I do,” adding, “It’s been rooted in me since I was a kid.”

“I don’t think a lot of things in life would happen without God,” he told Sports Spectrum. “We can’t choose our family, we can’t choose our support system. God blessed me with the ability to have my mom, my family, my support system around me.”
