Kirk Cameron and his daughter, Olivia, recently re-created a fun trick from his time as Mike Seaver on GROWING PAINS.
“So we’re trying to recreate a scene from GROWING PAINS way back when I was like 14 or 15 years old,” Cameron began in a social media video posted Jan. 19.
In the scene, Cameron flips a cherry tomato into his mouth by tipping a spoon on a glass.
His daughter re-created the setup by taping a spoon to a glass. Cameron made about six missed attempts before he accidentally broke the glass.
“We just broke the glass!” his daughter laughed. “We need a new glass.”
After about 10 more attempts, he finally caught the tomato in his mouth.

In 2020, the GROWING PAINS cast had a virtual reunion. Only Alan Thicke, who played Dr. Jason Seaver, wasn’t there. He passed away in 2016.
“We’re just missing Alan. He always had us laughing, had me laughing,” said Joanna Kerns, who played Maggie. “He was one of the most charming men I’d ever met.”
“It’s been years now and I still reach for the phone occasionally, just thinking, ‘I haven’t talked to Alan in a while and want to say hi,'” said Jeremy Miller, who played Ben. “He was a huge part of our lives.”
In 2016, Cameron recalled meeting him, thinking he’d be a really cool dad.
“We were a family,” Cameron said. “We laughed and cried together, shared birthday celebrations, Christmas parties, holidays and worked together with the crew as a team to make a really special TV show. We weren’t just a TV family. In many ways, we were a real family.”
This year marks 41 years since GROWING PAINS premiered.
It “always felt like I was coming to my second family when we were on the set,” Cameron said at the reunion. He added that Thicke would advise him on how to talk to girls on set, which is how he met his future wife, Chelsea Noble.
“It worked out really well for me personally, and here we are 29 years later with six kids,” he said.
One of Cameron’s latest projects is a kids show, IGGY AND MR. KIRK, streaming on Angel.
