Kirk Cousins Agrees to Four-Year Contract With Atlanta Falcons

Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins will be moving to Atlanta, Georgia, after securing a four-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons.

Per CBS Sports, “Cousins was the No. 1 free agent on senior columnist Pete Prisco’s Top 100 list, so it’s not hyperbole to say that this was the biggest shoe to drop on Monday. He agreed to a four-year, $180 million deal with the Atlanta Falcons, who finally have their answer at quarterback.”

“While Cousins is set to enter his age-36 season in 2024 and is coming off a torn Achilles that ended his season, this is a great move for the Falcons,” CBS continued. “If Cousins can return to form, he’s their best quarterback since Matt Ryan and could finally unleash the potential of their collection of first-round skill position players like Bijan Robinson, Drake London and Kyle Pitts. This move likely makes Atlanta the team to beat in the NFC South.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Cousins’ injury:

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins is trusting God with his career after sustaining a season-ending Achilles tendon tear on Oct. 29…

“I’m excited to write the next chapter and see what God wants to do with it, whatever it may be,” he added. “I’ve just kind of been reminded again that my career, it’s not my career. It’s His career that I steward, and I’ve just gotta surrender myself and let Him lead where He wants to go. And when that’s a torn Achilles, I have to accept it just as much as if it’s a win on MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL.”

Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah commented on Cousins’ release.

“After significant and positive dialogue with Kirk and his representatives, we were unable to reach agreement on a contract that fits the short- and long-term visions for both Kirk and the Minnesota Vikings,” he said.

“Kirk holds a special place in Vikings history, and we appreciate his leadership and contributions to the team and the Minneapolis-St. Paul community over the past six seasons,” Adofo-Mensah added. “We wish him; his wife, Julie; and their children all the best. Our approach heading into free agency always included layers of contingencies regarding the quarterback position. We are moving forward with plans that allow us to continue building a roster that can compete for a championship.”

Cousins has yet to share anything about the change, but he will take his faith with him.

Movieguide® previously reported on the quarterback’s commitment to following Christ:

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins explored his journey to faith and what it means to truly follow Jesus in an interview with Lakeland Community Church.

Cousins grew up in a Christian household, and his father was a pastor. He heard the gospel at the age of seven and gave his life to Christ.

But a high school Bible teacher helped him understand what it means to live for Jesus.

His teacher explained that “there’s a difference between being a fan of Jesus and being a follower of Jesus,” Cousins recalled. “And then to be a disciple – a follower – is to be fully devoted. And to be fully devoted means that you’re putting in work, that you’re wanting to grow, that you’re making sacrifices, and that when culture goes one way and Jesus goes the other, you got to go with Jesus. Even if that costs you something.”
