New CMA Awards Host Promises to Bring Some ‘Bell Bottom Flair’
By Movieguide® Contributor
A fresh face will be joining this year’s panel of hosts for the Country Music Association Awards.
Singer-songwriter Lainey Wilson will partner with veteran hosts Luke Bryan and Peyton Manning, and she plans to add her own “flare” to the show’s 58th year.
In a humorous promo video, Wilson pops out of the back seat of a convertible that Manning and Bryan are driving in.
“I’m coming with y’all!” she announces to the shocked men. “Listen, fellas, I ain’t trying to kill your vibe, but I think I could bring something to the CMA Awards that you ain’t never had before…Like humor. Like personality. Like style. A little bell bottom flair.”
In a press release, Wilson shared her excitement for her part in the awards show.
“I could not be more excited to host the CMA Awards this year with Luke and Peyton,” Wilson said in a press release. “It’s such an incredible honor and something I’ve always dreamed of doing. We’re planning a really great show for y’all, so make sure to watch on Nov. 20!”
Manning commented on the new addition. “The past two years have been a lot of fun, and I know Lainey is going to bring a special flare. Hopefully she can help me keep Luke in line! Either way, I’m excited for an incredible night of celebration and country music,” he said.
Bryan said of this year’s show, “Hosting the CMA Awards is such an honor and it’s crazy when I realize this is my 4th year back. Peyton and I have really worked to build off each other and now adding Lainey to the mix will just bring another fun element to the night. Celebrating Country Music never gets old to me.”
The CMA Awards will air on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 8/7c on ABC.
Movieguide® previously reported on Wilson’s journey into country music:
Country sensation Lainey Wilson always knew she was made for music.
There was never a “Plan B.”
“A lot of people thought I was crazy,” Wilson said about her path to success, which took more than a decade. “‘Yep, 19-year-old Lainey.’ I knew it. I did. I knew it. But there’s been a million steps.”
“You never had a plan B?” TODAY host Willie Geist asked.
“I never did,” she replied…
Her stubborn roots and determination kept her there, and she never called it quits even when it got hard.
“I think God laid it on my heart a long time ago. I think it was being from a bunch of hardheaded folks,” she said. “You got to be a little bit nuts to want to do this. You do.”
