Madonna Thanks Kids After Hospitalization: Love is the ‘Best Medicine’

Madonna posted a special message of gratitude for those closest to her one month after her hospitalization for a bacterial infection.
The pop star shared a photo of her hugging her son, David Banda, and a photo of her and her daughter, Lourdes Leon.
She wrote, “Love from family and friends is the best medicine. One month out of the hospital, and I can reflect.
“As a mother you can really get caught up in the needs of your children and the seemingly endless giving,” she wrote.
“But when the chips were down my children really showed up for me. I saw a side to them I had never seen before. It made all the difference,” she added.
Madonna also described her emotional response to a gift she received from her manager, Guy Oseary: “a Polaroid photo taken by Andy Warhol, showing pop artist Keith Haring wearing a jacket with Michael Jackson’s face painted onto it.”
“I sobbed when I opened this gift because I realized how lucky I am to be alive. And how fortunate I am to have known these people and so many others who are also gone. Thank you @guyoseary for this gift! And Thank you to all my angels who protected me and let me stay to finish doing my work!” she concluded.
On June 28, Madonna’s manager revealed that the singer had been hospitalized.
Oseary wrote, “On Saturday June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several day stay in the ICU. Her health is improving; however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected. At this time, we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour. We will share more details with you soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows.”
Movieguide® previously reported:
“I’m on the road to recovery and incredibly grateful for all the blessings in my life,” the singer said. “My focus now is my health and getting stronger and I can assure you, I’ll be back as soon as I can!”
Neither Madonna nor her manager elaborated on the details that surround Madonna’s hospitalization.
“Usually when people say ‘serious bacterial infection,’ it’s usually implying … [that] the bacteria went systemic and the inflammatory system went berserk, which is sepsis,” an emergency physician told MedPage Today.
“My first thought when I woke up in the hospital was my children. My second thought was that I did not want to disappoint anyone who bought tickets for my tour,” Madonna said. “I also didn’t want to let down the people who worked tirelessly with me over the last few months to create my show. I hate to disappoint anyone.”
