Magic’s Jalen Suggs Credits Jesus for Peace Amid Outstanding Season
By Movieguide® Contributor
Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs credited God for his success this year.
Per Sports Spectrum, “Suggs…was taken fifth overall in the 2021 draft…[and] has started all 33 of the games he’s played and is averaging a career-best 13.7 points per contest, shooting 46.4% from the field and 40.3% from 3-point range.”

After the Magic’s recent game against the Denver Nuggets, Suggs revealed his recent struggle with his mental health.
However, he has remained in the presence of God and has held tightly to His peace.
“I had a little dip for a second, for a couple days, to be honest — with fatigue and with the demand of the season, expectations, and continually trying to get better and all that,” Suggs said. “I think a lot of it goes just to the work I’ve done spiritually and mentally.”
“I’ve done a lot of work to really improve my mental health,” he continued. “I think I’d be wrong to not give a lot of credit to Jesus Christ and the work I’ve done with Him.”
Later, Suggs shared that interview on his X page and added the Bible verse, Deuteronomy 31:8 which reads, “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.'”
He also wrote, “You’re never as alone on your journey as you feel! Live present, celebrate little wins, and enjoy ALL life has to offer!”

Suggs often shares Bible verses on his social media posts.
In a post from December, Suggs wrote, “’I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.’ Psalms 16:8”
In another Instagram post, the Magic guard wrote, “‘In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your father in heaven.’ Matthew 5:16”
Movieguide® previously reported on Suggs’ faith:
In just his third season in the NBA, Jalen Suggs has made his mark and remains a pivotal player for the Magic.
After the Magic secured the win against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday, Suggs praised God for the opportunity to play with the team.
“I’m so glad that God has placed me in this city with this group,” he declared.
…In a 2021 interview with Faith on the Field, Suggs talked about his relationship with God and how he needed to trust God while playing ball in the NCAA COVID bubble.
“I remember during the tournament; it was really hard. It was hard for me because all my family was there,” he said. “And I have friends that came down, I couldn’t go see any of them. We were stuck in the bubble. And it had just been a long season. You know, for as many ups there were, and good moments are equally as many bad ones.”
He continued, “And I think just being faithful, you know, being confident and strong-minded, and being rooted, and to be myself in my relationship, where God helped me through all of it. It was a challenging year, you know, I’ll be the first one to say. [We] went through many ups and downs, but my relationship with God got me through it, honestly.”
