Marvel just dropped the trailer for its upcoming preschool series, MARVEL’S IRON MAN AND HIS AWESOME FRIENDS, and shared some exciting casting updates.
The show follows “the adventures (and misadventures) of best friends and super geniuses — Tony Stark, Riri Williams and Amadeus Cho — as they work together to solve problems, both big and small, and protect their city,” a synopsis reads, per a press release. “In order to help them save the day, the Iron Friends each have their own Iron Suits that allow them to fly and give them enhanced super-strength.”
The series will premiere Aug. 11 on Disney Jr. and Disney Channel and can be streamed the following day.
Howard Stark, Iron Man’s dad, will be voiced by FULL HOUSE star John Stamos. Other cast members include Jessica Mendoza as Dottie Doubleday, Jackée Harry as Granny Williams, Stephen Tobolowsky as Spencer Q. Sweets, Lauren Tom as Helen Cho and Gary Anthony Williams and Mo Collins as Nuts and Bolts.
Fans on Instagram shared their excitement.
“Whooo this looks so exciting!!! I love Iron Man and I can’t to see this!” one user said. Another person added, “I’m always happy to see comic characters be introduced to kids.”
Stamos announced the exciting news on social media and revealed a picture of his new character.
“Did somebody say Disney Jr. cinematic universe?? Oh, that was me. Catch me as Howard Stark in Marvel’s Iron Man and His Awesome Friends—Aug 11 on #DisneyJr, streaming next day on #DisneyPlus!” he said.
In May, Marvel announced Tony Hale, Vanessa Bayer and Talon Warburton as the show’s villains. All actors expressed excitement for the roles.
“It’s really fun playing a villain because it gives me permission to yell at people and get paid for it,” Hale said. “Yes, please.”
IRON MAN AND HIS AWESOME FRIENDS isn’t the first superhero preschool series. SPIDEY AND HIS AMAZING FRIENDS has had much success and was recently renewed for a fifth season.
“Marvel’s SPIDEY AND HIS AMAZING FRIENDS is what happens when two storytelling powerhouses — Marvel and Disney Jr. — come together to introduce the next generation to the world of Super Heroes,” Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, said of the show.
She added, “We love this show, and it’s been incredible to see how much kids do too. Team Spidey’s adventures aren’t slowing down anytime soon, and we can’t wait to bring even more stories, characters and action-packed fun for years to come.”
If the sister show is similar, odds are Iron Man will stick around for several seasons, too.
