Michael J. Fox Hints that His Acting Career Might Not Be Over

Michael J. Fox recently revealed he would be open to returning to acting if the right role came up.
“I would do acting if something came up that I could put my realities into it, my challenges, if I could figure it out,” Fox told Parade.
He retired from acting in 2020 as his Parkinson’s progressed to the point it was impacting his ability to perform at a world-class level. The disease affects his speech and memory. He was diagnosed in 1991 when he was only 29 years old and went public with his diagnosis in 1998.
Despite struggling with the disease from an early age, Fox has not let Parkinson’s define his life and has achieved everything he set out to do when he first joined Hollywood.
“My biggest goal, I think, was to raise a family,” Fox said. “We have four amazing kids and that’s been the big thing. And then the other is with the foundation.”
Capitalizing on his fame, the actor founded the Michael J. Fox Foundation in 2000 to promote research into Parkinson’s. The foundation has since funded over $1 billion in research, significantly pushing forward the knowledge, diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
In 2023, Fox created a documentary to further share about his life with Parkinson’s. STILL: A MICHAEL J. FOX MOVIE played a major part in reigniting his desire to return to acting if given the chance.
“If someone offers me a part and I do it and I have a good time, great,” Fox said. “I mean the documentary was a big thrill. It was fun. I never would have set that as a goal. It just happened.”

Fox, 60, told AARP that he focuses on gratitude and is a “genuinely happy guy.”
“If you don’t think you have anything to be grateful for, keep looking. Because you don’t just receive optimism. You can’t wait for things to be great and then be grateful for that. You’ve got to behave in a way that promotes that,” Fox told the outlet.
The FAMILY TIES star said that one of the things he is thankful for is his family of four children, whom he shares with his wife of 33 years, Tracy Pollan.
