Movieguide® Award Presenter Haylie Duff Says Move To Texas Has Been ‘So Rewarding’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Haylie Duff is one of many stars who left Hollywood, and she recently shared what life has been like since she moved to Texas.

Duff and her family moved in 2020, and she shared that they “love it” and are “so happy” in the Lone Star State.

While Duff said she had some “fear” about moving from Los Angeles to Austin, the actress has shared that it’s been “amazing.”

“The truth is, is that I feel like I have found my footing in my career in a very different way and in almost like a fresher way,” Duff said on the Movieguide® Awards red carpet, where she served as a presenter.

She continued, “I don’t know if that’s because I was given a little space to look at things a little differently or, you know, approach things differently maybe, I don’t know. But this last year with stepping into directing has certainly been so rewarding for me.”

“I think it’s been an amazing thing for me to not be in Los Angeles,” Duff explained. “I don’t know if it had anything to do with me not being [in L.A.] or all these same things would have still happened if I was in [L.A.]. I have no idea. But, you know, I think everything happens the way it’s supposed to.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Duff’s move to Texas:

Actress and singer Haylie Duff recently opened up about her move from Hollywood to Texas during the pandemic and how it benefited her family.

“Well, you know, I grew up in Texas,” she explained. “Texas is my home state. And so, I always imagined that I would come back to Texas and raise our family here and things like that.

“And we [she and husband Matt Rosenberg] imagined it probably more as our girls were going into middle school or that age,” Duff continued. “But when the pandemic happened, we just kind of looked at each other, and we were like, ‘Should we? Should we get a little more space and a little fresh air?’”

Duff was a little hesitant at first to leave California, worried that her acting career would suffer.

“I think so much of my fear of moving out of Los Angeles was that my career was there and that I would never work again or something like that,” she explained. “And, you know, I think this has all taught us that Zoom certainly can be a very powerful tool. And we can, you know, very luckily for me, get to continue to work from here.”

She continued, “I get to live near my dad, which I haven’t lived here (near) my dad in a really long time, and so there’s a lot of family here that I get to spend time with now that I didn’t before. And we love it. We’ve met great friends here, and we really landed in a great spot here.”

The actress also shared some of the benefits of moving to Texas, including less traffic and more time with nature.

“I think our quality of life just changed a little bit,” she said.”Our kids, we were like looking at them on Sunday. We were like, ‘What do you guys want to do?’ And they were like, ‘I don’t know, what are you guys going to do?’ And we ended up packing a bag and going to Barton Springs and taking our kids to swim in the river there. We get outside a lot more, I think, here, and we adventure a little more here.”

Even though leaving Los Angeles was hard, Duff is thankful that the move has made life better for her family, while also still allowing her to continue working in movies and television.

“I’m very grateful that work opportunities have still been there for me,” she shared. “And I also am a big believer in God’s got your back. And so you make the right decision for your family, and He’s got it.”
