Tom Holland’s fourth Spider-Man movie, SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY, is officially in the pre-production phase.

Filming is set to start this August in Glasgow, Scotland, Collider reported Wednesday. Pre-production is currently underway at the UK’s Pinewood Studios.

Holland will return as Spider-Man/Peter Parker, and Zendaya, his real-life fiancée and on-screen girlfriend, will return as MJ. Jacob Batalon is expected to return as Ned, Spider-Man’s best friend. Some new cast members include Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas.

Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige will produce, Super Hero Hype reported. Jon Watts was originally slated to direct, but SHANG-CHI director Destin Daniel Cretton will now direct. The movie will also come out later than originally planned. It’s release date is July 31, 2026.

Watts explained why he chose to direct another movie, WOLFS, instead of BRAND NEW DAY: “Sometimes you do an action movie, and all the fun action stuff is given to the second-unit director. On the Marvel movies, you split up the work because there’s so much to be done. Rarely do you get the Christopher Nolan opportunity to do all of it. On this one, I was like, ‘I want to shoot every single shot.’”

The last SPIDER-MAN hit, NO WAY HOME, which Watts directed, was the highest-grossing film of 2021 and the highest-grossing Spider-Man film.

In June of 2023, Holland explained that he had met with producers about the possibility of SPIDER-MAN 4.

“The first few meetings were about, ‘Why would we do this again?’ And I think we found the reason why,” Holland revealed at the time.

A few Marvel Cinematic Universe characters are rumored to appear in the new movie.

“The most recent rumor I heard is that we may be looking at a number of established MCU characters popping up in this film, not just Bruce in particular,” The Cosmic Circus’ Alex Perez said. “Normally, it’s just 1, 2 or even 3 MCU characters appearing in these films, but I heard we may be actually getting a couple of more showing up this time around.”

Hulk is one of the characters rumored to appear, possibly as a villain, Savage Hulk. Comic Book Resources reported other speculative villains are Mister Negative; Boomerang, Tarantula and Tombstone; Chameleon; Knull/Venom; Scorpion; The Vulture and Slver Sumarai/Viper.

Nicole Kidman is purportedly being considered for a role in the movie, and that it could possibly be as Viper, also known as Madame Hydra.

Screen Rant reported the end of NO WAY HOME left MJ and Ned in the dark about certain events. This could reduce their roles in the new movie, particularly MJ’s if Peter doesn’t tell her the truth about their past.

The film is coming out in July of next year, just ahead of AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY on Dec. 18, 2026 and AVENGERS: SECRET WARS on Dec. 17 2027.
