SPIDER-MAN 4 Gets Promising Update

It seems the fourth movie in the Tom Holland-led SPIDER-MAN series is underway as director Destin Daniel Cretton has been picked to helm the movie.
Cretton previously directed SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS and has been working on creating a sequel to that movie. Cretton will be taking over the franchise from Jon Watts who directed the previous three movies.
While Holland had previously shared apprehension about creating a fourth SPIDER-MAN movie, just before last year’s strikes, he revealed the Marvel execs had come up with a storyline he could get behind.
“The first few meetings were about, ‘Why would we do this again?’ And I think we found the reason why. I’m really, really happy with where we’re at in terms of the creative,” Holland told The Hollywood Reporter in June of 2023.
“But I’m also a little apprehensive about it,” he added. “There’s a bit of a stigma about the fourth one in all franchises. I feel like we hit a home run with our first franchise and there’s a part of me that wants to walk away with my head held high and pass the baton to the next lucky kid that gets to bring this character to life.”
The end of the third movie certainly left the door open for Marvel to go either way as Dr. Strange cast a spell over the entire world to make everyone — including his friends — forget that Peter Parker is Spider-Man.
The return to the franchise may end up being a major milestone for Holland. He took a year off of acting for the sake of his mental health after wrapping production on THE CROWDED ROOM, and SPIDER-MAN 4 may prove to be his first project since returning.
Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are set to pen the script, and Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal will produce. Though there is no set release window for the movie, SPIDER-MAN 4 is a priority for Marvel Studios.

Tom Holland recently revealed that conversations about a fourth SPIDER-MAN movie are underway.
“All I can say is that we have been actively engaging in conversations about what it could potentially look like for a fourth rendition of my character,” Holland said at a Critics Choice Association press conference, according to Variety. “Whether or not we can find a way to do justice to the character is another thing.”
The actor, who has played Spider-Man since 2016’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, said that he feels “protective” over the character.
“I feel very, very lucky that we were able to work on a franchise that got better with each movie, that got more successful with each movie, which I think is really rare, and I want to protect his legacy,” he explained. “So, I won’t make another one for the sake of making another one. It will have to be worth the while of the character.”
