A new face will join the cast of NCIS: ORIGINS — Phillip Winchester has been confirmed for Season 2.

“Winchester will play Mason Franks, the older brother of Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid), a Texas-tough cowboy who has recently hit rock bottom,” Deadline reported. “Mason is an honorable man who has fallen on hard times and is desperately trying to keep from losing the family ranch. His desperation leads him to seek help from his estranged little brother.”

Winchester’s character will reportedly be introduced in the upcoming season’s fourth episode.

“We are so happy that NCIS: ORIGINS has been so well received by both longtime NCIS fans and franchise newcomers,” co-showrunners Gina Lucita Monreal and David J. North told Parade. “We’re thrilled to be returning for a second season and can’t wait to tell more incredible stories of Gibbs, Franks, Lala, and the rest of the team with the superbly talented actors who play them.”

NCIS: ORIGINS’ second season will pick up after the dramatic events of last season’s cliffhanger. Warning, spoilers ahead!

In the final episode of Season 1, Lala Dominguez, Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ partner, is in a serious car accident, and it’s still unknown if she’ll make it out alive.

“We can’t promise that [Lala is alive] but we can promise that you’ll get an answer if you come back in season 2,” North told Us Weekly. “Going into this, we wanted to take big swings.”

He added, “Mariel [Molino, who plays Lala] knew going into this that we were going to take big swings and she was on board for whatever was the best way to make the audience feel something in a truthful way. That’s what we’re doing.”

In an interview with Deadline, North explained, “We definitely had a lot of discussions in the writers’ room about how we wanted to end the season. We definitely had a lot of discussions about how we wanted to end the season. And at the end of the day, Gina and I like to tell stories that seem to be honest and true to us.”

“I think everyone has had these experiences where you wake up one morning, and life’s ho-humming along and then all of a sudden something unthinkable happens. And lives are constantly colliding, and that was the theme of the beautiful finale that Gina wrote,” he concluded. “In the end, this is sort of just where the story took us.”

Season 2 of NCIS: ORIGINS will premiere Oct. 14. We can’t wait to see what new adventures these episodes will bring!
