Ohio State Offensive Lineman Luke Montgomery Trusts God’s Path

During a preseason meeting with the media, Luke Montgomery, an offensive lineman for the Ohio State football team, spoke about his faith and why he trusts God with his future.
“Faith is obviously a big part, it’s one of my core values,” Montgomery told The Columbus Dispatch while wearing a “Jesus Wins” shirt. “Coming into a school like this, I was a little nervous on the faith base just ‘cuz some other schools had shown a little more. But, you know, I never didn’t trust the Lord’s will and His path for me, if that make any sense.”
“Right when I got here I was blessed with being able to have the opportunities of having scripture-based Bible studies on Wednesdays with… guys that are now kind of moving on with the next part of their journey,” Montgomery continued. “And that’s kind of moved down towards us younger guys. We’ve continued to grow in our paths as well, so it’s been pretty cool.”
With a year of college football under his belt, Montgomery is still working hard to learn how to play at such a high level. Having only started playing football during his junior year of high school, he is also continuing to develop his football knowledge as he works for a starting position.
“It was a lot at first but honestly, I’ve started to just continue to trust in the plan of the Lord, you know. Coming in here, you got dreams of being — like, I wanted to be a left tackle, but here I am going into year two playing center and guard, and that’s all right, you know. I’m just kind of trying to find my way onto the field here in any way possible,” Montgomery said.
“I just honestly go back to the faith-based part for me, it’s just the Lord’s way, it’s not mine,” he continued. “Things go His way and you just got to trust in His plan. I pray about that a lot every day before I run out past the red line and leave everything behind…I’m just kind of grinding right now and just trying to get better every day at whatever I need to do.”
“At Ohio State, you learn of lot of things don’t go your way,” he added. “And that’s when you kind of need to trust in the Lord’s path and guidelines for you.”
Even as a player who sees less game time than he would like, Montgomery has been careful to use the platform that being an Ohio State football player gives him to spread the Gospel. His Instagram bio simply reads “Follower of Christ.” While a post recapping last year’s season was captioned with Numbers 6:24–26: “May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you His favor and give you His peace.”
Montgomery is one of multiple Ohio State football players who have become bold about their faith and used their platform to glorify God.
