Oklahoma State women’s basketball head coach Jacie Hoyt relied on God amid pregnancy uncertainties.

“I can’t say I ever doubted, you know, that He was real or, you know, anything like that,” she shared on Sports Spectrum’s podcast of her struggle with infertility. “I was kind of more in a place of, ‘God, just tell me if I’m going to be able to have a baby or not, because if that’s not your plan for my life, I will walk obediently in whatever you have for me. But if that’s not the plan, then just make it happen, please.'”

Hoyt continued, “Like, it was just more so, like, the frustration of just, ‘How do you want me to move through this space?’ And ‘How do you want me to glorify You in this?’ I just don’t know what the plan is.’ And, like, I remember just telling my mom one time, like, I just wish we could just sit down over coffee, and He could say, ‘Jacie, you know, like you’re either gonna be a mom or you’re not,’ and then even if I don’t like the answer, and it makes me really sad, I’ll obey.”

She eventually got her answer, and on July 11, 2024, Hoyt announced that she and her husband, Daniel Heflin, were expecting.

“We’ve got a new roster addition coming in December! We are thrilled and grateful for God’s perfect timing in our life. Not sure Buzz feels the same, but he will come around,” she wrote on Instagram along with photos of the couple holding ultrasound photos.

“This has been a 4.5-year journey of infertility that has been full of heartache, disappointment, and frustration,” Hoyt described. “Pictures like this used to be so hard for me to see, as it was a stark reminder of what I didn’t have or thought I possibly couldn’t have. I hope that anyone who sees this won’t be discouraged, but rather find hope and encouragement. I pray that no matter how hopeless it may feel, you can learn to have an unshakeable faith in Jesus and God’s perfect plan and timing for your life. He is good all the time, and all the time He is good!”

Hoyt concluded the post with Jeremiah 29:11: “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

The parents welcomed their daughter, Harlow Renée Heflin, on Dec. 11, 2024.

“The greatest blessing I’ve ever received…the blessing of being a mama,” Hoyt posted on Mother’s Day.

Though Hoyt’s battle with infertility was painful, God faithfully carried her through and gave her and her husband the child they’d longed for.
