Pastor Greg Laurie Reveals Redemptive Story You Didn’t See in JESUS REVOLUTION

By Movieguide® Staff

Pastor Greg Laurie, the head pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship, recently released a movie called JESUS REVOLUTION which tracks his childhood and salvation as a young man.

However, Laurie recently revealed that God’s provision in his life did not stop after the ‘Jesus Revolution’ of the 1970s.

The movie touches on Laurie’s father, Oscar, who is later revealed to be his step dad. However, what the movie does not show is their miraculous reunion.

CBN reported:

Oscar invited Greg and his wife Cathe to come visit with him and his new family. As they ate dinner together, Greg shared about the gospel. His father, a lawyer and an intellectual, listened intently but said little at that moment. He simply said, “Greg, will you go walking with me tomorrow morning?”

It turns out Oscar had experienced a heart attack two weeks earlier and had almost died. Part of his new health regimen was to go walking early in the morning, so the two men went for an early walk at 6 a.m.

That’s when Oscar suddenly said, “Greg, I listened very carefully to what you said last night about Jesus.” Greg recounts, “And he said, ‘I want to accept Jesus Christ into my life right now.'”

Greg was stunned. “I said, ‘Dad, let me go over it one more time,'” he recalls.

After he explained the gospel again, Oscar continued, “Yes, I want to accept Jesus Christ right now. What do I need to do?”

When Greg said they should pray together, Oscar immediately dropped to his knees, right in the middle of the park. So he joined him on his knees too and led him in a prayer of salvation. “It was incredible, one of the most amazing conversions I’ve ever seen!” Greg says.

Laurie also recalled God’s healing of his adoptive father’s physical heart.

After praying for his father’s heart, the two men visited the doctor.

“I said, ‘I don’t know if God will heal your heart, but we can pray,'” Greg said.

After a visit with the doctor, Oscar’s heart was healed.

“Just one of the most amazing things I ever have seen,” Greg added. “In the movie, you just see Greg longing for his father, but in real life, Greg found his father.”

Movieguide®’s review of JESUS REVOLUTION reads:

JESUS REVOLUTION is an accurate, compressed portrait of the hippies and Vietnam War protestors who find Jesus because God calls several Christians to tell them about Jesus Christ. The plot is propelled by a love story between an impoverished young man, Greg Laurie, with an alcoholic mother, and Cathe, a beautiful young woman from a wealthy Southern California family. Cathe becomes burned out by the drug scene. She brings Greg to Pastor Chuck Smith’s growing church in Newport Beach. Lonnie Frisbee, a young hippie preacher, has convinced Chuck to open his church to the young, disaffected people who’ve been drawn to Southern California.

JESUS REVOLUTION is incredibly well made and captivating. It has many scenes with jeopardy and inspiring, well-written presentations of Jesus’ Gospel. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution because the movie accurately depicts the drug scene from an impartial viewpoint that might attract younger children. The movie also shows Greg Laurie’s mother’s constant drunkenness and philandering. The immoral behavior is part of the true stories in JESUS REVOLUTION, which, to an amazing degree, have been made into an exciting, cohesive, uplifting movie.
