Peyton Hillis: ‘It is 100% a Miracle’ No One Died in Near Drowning Incident

In January, Peyton Hillis, former Denver Broncos running back, suffered an accident in which Hillis saved his son and niece from drowning.

Hillis joined Michael Strahan on GOOD MORNING AMERICA and said, “It is 100% a miracle that somebody didn’t die.”

The former running back recalled the fear he experienced as he jumped into action.

“I think the scariest point … was when I’m swimming to my son and I have to pass by him because my niece is in more danger,” Hillis expressed. “I knew that I had to pass him up to get to Camille first. Because, you know, if I didn’t then there’s no way she would’ve made it.”

After he swam back, Hillis prayed that his son would survive.

“‘Lord, please,’” Hillis prayed.” ‘Like, I really don’t care about my life. I don’t. But if we can get him out of here that’s the only thing I’m going to care about.’”

Following the accident, Hillis was hospitalized and suffered from lung and kidney complications. He spent two and a half weeks in the hospital.

Hillis claimed he is still on the mend and doesn’t feel he will ever fully recover. On top of the physical ailments, the mental recovery has been the hardest for Hillis.

Many have called Hillis a hero, but he doesn’t think that of himself.

“I call myself a dad,” Hillis said.

Movieguide® previously reported on Hillis:

Hillis wrote in a recent Twitter post, “I did want to come on here and show my appreciation for everyone who helped save my life and for all of your prayers and love and support. I left the hospital with no worries and concerns and should make a 100% recovery.”

“I’m a very lucky and blessed man,” he added. “Yahweh has really blessed me, and I am very thankful.”
