OVERCOMER Actor Cameron Arnett Shares the Key to His Success
By Tess Farrand, Associate Content Editor
When OVERCOMER astounded at the summer box office, actor Cameron Arnett knew Who was responsible for the success.
“It’s still all about Him and not about us no matter what pedestal he puts us on,” Arnett told Movieguide®. “I want to be able to steward whatever God brings whatever he gives, in a way that that lets people know that he’s still Lord and he’s still to be respected and honored and revered and that we are still to point to Him.”
In OVERCOMER, Arnett played Thomas Hill, a blind man who exchanged his rocky past for a fulfilled life in Jesus Christ.
Arnett’s technique and acting skills convinced audience members and filmmakers that he really was blind. Arnett takes that as a compliment, and said it all comes back to how he stewards his God-given talents.
“So much has happened since OVERCOMER,” Arnett told Movieguide®, “I’m just extremely grateful and I tell people all the time, I use the word thankfulness only because I don’t know a bigger word to use. It’s been beyond what I had believed that I will be doing at this point in time. I had never even thought that I’d be acting again [and] to see what God has done in and through OVERCOMER…”
OVERCOMER is just the latest title in Arnett’s credits.
Arnett began his career in entertainment decades ago in Hollywood. Arnett landed roles on television shows like MIAMI VICE and STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION, but when he was asked to do partial nudity, he knew he needed to walk away.
He feels that God has blessed him significantly because he chose to honor Him.
“The Bible says that it is by His goodness, that He calls them to repentance. The goodness of God that has shown up the favor that God has manifested in my life, my wife’s life,” Arnett proclaimed.
Arnett referred to his wife, BJ, as a Proverbs 31 woman who has a strong relationship with the Lord that is foundational for everything else in her life.
“She is my biggest cheerleader and now she is my biggest helpmate,” he said.
The couple genuinely strives to continue to build their marriage on God’s foundation.
“I have four verses that are paramount and that are repeatable, in a sense of how we live,” Arnett relayed. He repeated portions of the four he admires the most: Joshua 1:9, Joshua 1:7, Proverbs 3:5-6, and Proverbs 19:21.
“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.”- Proverbs 19:21 (NIV)
“The verse that gives me the most comfort out of those four is ‘Many are the plans of a man’s heart,’ but it’s God’s purposes that prevail,” Arnett said.
He continued, it “allows you to realize that… as long as I am falling forward towards him, he’s going to cause what he intended to prevail.”
Audiences can find him on screen again come March in the Erwin Brothers’ I STILL BELIEVE with Gary Sinise and Shania Twain.
Arnett is currently working on a new project, DON’T SAY MY NAME, which aims to shed light on the evils of human trafficking. On December 5, 2019, MATTIE: THE DISCOVERY, another project of Arnett’s, premiered in Atlanta.
Through all of this, Arnett says he needs prayer.
“Pray that I steward God’s blessing correctly, that humility remains key, that gratefulness remains key.”
Please continue to pray that God’s favor would rest on Arnett!
