Pornhub Leaves Florida After Age-Verification Law Passes
By Movieguide® Contributor
Pornhub has announced that it will no longer be available in Florida starting Jan. 1, 2025, after the state passed a new age verification law.
“Promoted by Republican leader Paul Renner and signed in March by Governor Ron DeSantis, HB 3 aims to address the risks associated with minors using digital platforms, including cyberbullying, exploitation by predators, and negative effects on mental health,” Ciber Cuba reported.
HB 3 will require companies to delete accounts belonging to users under the age of 14, as well as put age verification tools in place, like facial scans or submitting official identification. Companies that don’t comply with the law will have to pay hefty fines.
Pornhub is choosing to cease operations in the state, rather than comply with the new law.
Relevant Magazine reported that Florida visitors to the site are now greeted with this message: “YOU WILL LOSE ACCESS TO PORNHUB IN 14 DAYS. Did you know that your government wants you to give your driver’s license before you can access PORNHUB? As crazy as it sounds, it’s true. You’ll be required to prove you are 18 years or older, such as by uploading your government ID, for every adult content website you’d like to access.”

Florida is one of many states that have passed similar legislation, including Oklahoma, Kentucky, Texas, Montana, North Carolina, Arkansas, Utah, Mississippi, Virginia and Louisiana.
Kansas Republican State Rep. Susan Humphries said laws like this are necessary because of the dangerous effects pornography consumption has on young people.
“The harms that pornography cause to our Kansas kids compel us to create barriers for their access,” she explained.
Speaking about HB 3, Gov. Ron DeSantis said, “Social media harms children in a variety of ways. HB 3 gives parents a greater ability to protect their children.”
Pornhub is also facing bans from other social media platforms, like TikTok. The pornography site was banned from the app in 2022.
