Priscilla Shirer Says God ‘Gives Us the Opportunity’ to Remind Each Other of This

When going through hard times, Priscilla Shirer says sometimes you just need someone to remind you of Jesus’ love to “keep you going.”

“We come out of that tunnel to the other side that we never thought we’d make it through,” she said on an episode of her TBN show, BETTER TOGETHER. “And then the Lord gives us the opportunity to comfort those with the comfort that we have been given. And to give them that same hope that, listen, ‘I just went through this tunnel and made it out…Let me tell you and let me show you how the Holy Spirit helped me. How prayer works. How, you know, community — during my time of suffering was so important. People encouraging me. Now let me offer that same encouragement to you.’”

Shirer explained that even those with strong faith can forget that Jesus is always there for us.

“It can be so dulled that you just need someone to come alongside of you and say, ‘Let me remind you of who Jesus is, that He still is who He says He is, that He is still able and fully capable of covering you and your family,’” she said. “To have people’s voices in your ear who can remind you of that and can also give you perspective from their own seasons of suffering — it buoys you up, keeps you going to the next 24 hours like nothing else.”

Shirer recently spoke at Liberty University, where she urged the audience to listen for Jesus’ knock at our door and to let Him in.

“This is the King of the universe ready to stand at your door. I want you to see and celebrate the patience of a Savior who is willing not just to save [us], but then to keep showing up at the door…and stand there and keep on knocking on our door,” she said. “May it never be lost on us, may it never be casual to us, that a God like that would stand patiently waiting for us.”

In a recent interview with Christianity Today, Shirer shared the importance of prioritizing Jesus every day.

“There’s a constant competition in the culture we live in about what our priorities should be,” she explained. “We don’t live in a culture that values self-denial and restraint. As disciples of Jesus Christ, we have to remember that He’s the priority, being willing to lay down our lives for Him and surrender, sometimes, our ambitions and our goals, the way we thought our life would be, the family dynamic we thought we’d have, the way it would look. Laying down those sorts of things becomes a way that we’re able to begin to recalibrate again.”
