DUDE PERFECT Producer Thrilled to See More Faith Content from Hollywood

DUDE PERFECT: THE HERO TOUR producer Harrison Ross shared that he loves to see Hollywood shift to embrace family-friendly movies and recognizes that Movieguide® is on the forefront of this change.

“It’s incredible, not only to see Movieguide® celebrate [faith and family], but also to see our culture begin to embrace that,” Ross told Movieguide® while at the Movieguide® Awards Gala earlier this month. “You know, 20 years ago when I was here on the red carpet, it was more on the outskirts trying to infiltrate, but we’re living in a cultural moment where families are wanting to embrace the media again. And media is wanting to tap into that family dynamic.”

“And then spiritually, we’re seeing a resurgence in our nation. And so, it’s really fun to see people’s choices and engagements reflect that,” he continued. “And I’m super excited for Movieguide® to continue to do what you guys do and allow parents to know what’s going on in the movies that they’re watching but then also allow the industry to speak into, be a part of, and further promote the films that are coming out.”

It been true for a long time that family-friendly movies perform better at the box office than movies that do not target a family audience. In 2023, for example, Movieguide®’s research found that of the top 25 movies at the box office, those with family-friendly themes grossed an average of $244 million, while those that promoted strong humanist, pagan or romantic worldviews only averaged $89 million.

Meanwhile, since the success of THE CHOSEN over the pandemic, Hollywood has seen a massive influx of high-quality Christian content that has amassed a major, mainstream audience. A clear example of this, beside the continued success of THE CHOSEN, was the release of HOUSE OF DAVID Season 1, which reached the No. 1 spot on Prime Video and helped launch the Wonder Project’s streaming service through its second season.

Ross’s movie, DUDE PERFECT: THE HERO TOUR, added to the slate of high-quality Christian content as the stars pray and share the importance of their faith in between fun skits and segments. A portion of Movieguide®’s review reads:

DUDE PERFECT: THE HERO TOUR is very funny and well filmed. It has lots of cool, spectacular images of The Dudes’ trick shots. The movie also has funny skits and pranks. The packed arenas full of cheering fans add to the excitement. DUDE PERFECT has a strong Christian worldview. The Dudes pray and discuss their Christian faith. They credit God for their success and tell everyone they are loved and created with a purpose. The movie features one light, borderline profanity, and a skit where some objects are smashed and destroyed. Otherwise, DUDE PERFECT: THE HERO TOUR is a wholesome, funny, inspiring movie for the whole family.

Movieguide® nominated DUDE PERFECT: THE HERO TOUR for the Aletheia Prize for Best Documentary at this year’s Movieguide® Awards Gala. To see the winner of that prize and more, tune into the Movieguide® Award Gala on Great American Family on March 5.
