Selena Gomez to Celebrate Holidays with Food Network Specials

Selena Gomez to Celebrate Holidays with Food Network Specials

By Movieguide® Contributor

Selena Gomez’s SELENA + CHEF is moving to the Food Network ahead of planned holiday specials, SELENA + CHEF: HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS.

“Offering special culinary moments is the way Food Network celebrates the holidays, so to have superstar Selena Gomez, who has more than 650 million fans on social media, open the door to her own home kitchen is a holiday dream come true for fans,” Betsy Ayala, the head of food content at Warner Bros. Discovery, shared

Gomez added, “The holidays have always meant so much to me. It was an honor to have these amazing chefs in my kitchen to introduce some of their favorite foods and what makes the holidays special for them.”

Chefs Alex Guarnaschelli, Michael Symon, Claudette Zepeda and Eric Adjepong will join the actress for the specials.

“Gomez will learn how to make roast beef and creamy mashed potatoes from Guarnaschelli—and classic steak and lobster from Symon,” PEOPLE reported. “The actress will also learn how to make Christmas tamales from Zepeda, and Adjepong will teach Gomez how to make shrimp and banana grits and a South African dish known as malva pudding to ring in the New Year.”

SELENA + CHEF premiered in 2020. Like many people during the COVID-19 lockdowns, Gomez started cooking and wanted to learn more from experienced chefs.

“Having some of the best chefs open up their kitchens to me was a humbling and fun experience. I definitely discovered I have a lot more to learn,” she told Seventeen ahead of the show’s premiere.

SELENA + CHEF: HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS, a four-part series of specials, will premiere on the Food Network on November 30 at 8 p.m. The specials will also be available to stream on Max.

Movieguide® previously reported on SELENA + CHEF:

SELENA + CHEF is singer/actress Selena Gomez’s new, unscripted cooking series that was filmed for HBO Max during quarantine. In the 10-episode series, Gomez receives virtual cooking lessons from professional chefs. As a beginner chef, Gomez learns new recipes and receives useful tips for navigating the kitchen. Filmed in her personal kitchen, viewers have the chance to learn useful cooking tips and laugh at Gomez’s mishaps. While often funny and entertaining, the series does come with some cautions…

SELENA + CHEF does have some redemptive elements. The series celebrates friendship, family, and service. Gomez has Lupus and often struggles with tasks that require heavy lifting. Her friends and relatives are often nearby to help and enjoy participating in the cooking experience. They also enjoy tasting the food together. The chefs often have family members who help or pop in to say “hello.” In an adorable moment, Gomez excites a chef’s teenage daughter by FaceTiming with Taylor Swift. The series also promotes learning and giving back, as Gomez learns to cook during quarantine while also donating to different charities.
