Musical artist Shakira will return to the ZOOTOPIA franchise as Gazelle.

The Latin Grammy winner played the singing gazelle in the first installment in 2016. Her song “Try Everything” went triple platinum after its release.

Shakira announced her return in a video posted to Instagram.

“I’m here to announce some big news. Are you ready? Gazelle is returning to ZOOTOPIA 2. That’s right. Gazelle is back and she’s got a new look, a new song and, of course, new dance moves. Just wait until you see what she and her tiger dancers have been working on. I know you’re going to love it. That’s all I can share for now, but I look forward to seeing you all on my tour next year and I’ll see you at the movies next November.”

ZOOTOPIA 2 is set to release November 2025.

The sequel sees “detectives Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (voiced by Jason Bateman) find themselves on the twisting trail of a mysterious reptile who arrives in Zootopia and turns the mammal metropolis upside down. To crack the case, Judy and Nick must go undercover to unexpected new parts of town, where their growing partnership is tested like never before.”

Walt Disney Studios previously revealed that the new film will feature some of the same characters from the first film, as well as brand new characters.

Variety reported, “After promising to revisit your favorite animals from the first film (including Mr Big, Clawhauser, Flash the Sloth), Disney also teased an arks-load of new animals. First up is Disney alum (LOKI, INDIANA JONES) Ke Huy Quan who is playing a reptile named Gary, the snake who was described as a ‘creepy, slithery, highly venomous viper.’ Welcome Gary! Apparently, Gary is a big part of Nick and Judy’s hot new case (yes, the duo are still animal cops). Plus this will be the first reptiles we shall see in the Zootopia world.”

Movieguide® praised the first ZOOTOPIA’s “very strong moral worldview with strong redemptive, American values elements.”

ZOOTOPIA is funny, exciting, heartwarming, and beautifully animated. Some of the action involves scary animals going berserk, so caution for younger children is advised. ZOOTOPIA has a strong moral worldview with strong redemptive elements. There are positive references to God, prayer and miracles. Also, there’s a biblical, conservative message extolling police work to fix a broken world. ZOOTOPIA will also please more liberal minded viewers, with messages against bullying, against negative stereotypes and supporting getting along with different people. ZOOTOPIA is a fun, uplifting time at the movies.
