Sheinelle Jones will return to the TODAY SHOW following her absence since last December and four months after her husband, Uche Ojeh, passed away from brain cancer.
“We’ve got some other great news that we are so excited to share with you, and it involves a member of our own TODAY family,” host Craig Melvin said when announcing Jones’ return.
“Yes, our beloved Sheinelle will be returning to the show,” added host Savannah Guthrie. “She and her family have been through so much after the devastating loss of her husband, Uche.”

In January, Jones shared on Instagram that she was taking a step back from the show as she dealt with a family matter. Later, in May, Jones’ co-hosts shared the devastating news that Ojeh had died from brain cancer.
“With profound sadness, we share this morning that Uche Ojeh, the husband of our friend and TODAY co-host Sheinelle Jones, has passed away after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma,” Guthrie said on the show.
“There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children,” she continued. “Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him.”
“We had a number of conversations about just life in general,” Melvin added. “And one thing he always talked about, he talked about those kids. He loved those kids more than anything else in this world, and was just so proud. He was that dad that was on the sideline every soccer game. He was at all the concerts and the recitals. He was that guy.”
Sheinelle’s return will take place on Sept. 5 along with a pre-taped interview with Guthrie that will air that same day. In it, she will discuss how she found strength and solace since the death of her husband.
“We recently sat down together. We shared a really personal conversation, talking about how she has carried on and found strength these past few months,” Guthrie shared. “She calls this experience a ‘beautiful nightmare.’ And she has thoughts on grief that are so touching. She’s got a special message of hope too for anyone facing their own struggles, and we will share that with you. And we cannot wait to welcome Sheinelle home, right where she belongs, right here in our studio, Studio 1A on Friday.”
Please keep Jones and her kids in your prayers as she returns to her hosting role on TODAY and continues to find a life after her husband’s death.
