Should You Use the Enneagram? Sadie Robertson Huff Weighs In
By Movieguide® Contributor
In a recent sermon, Sadie Robertson Huff encouraged us to turn away from online personality tests and articles and to instead find our identity in the word of God.
“You see, what we’re trying to do is we’re trying to study the Enneagram to tell us about who we are more than we’re studying the word of God to find out who we are,” Huff explained. “We’re trying to take all these personality tests to lead us and guide us through our life instead of leaning on the Holy Spirit.”
Huff continued, “We’re scrolling through social media, trying to figure out answers to these massive questions about who we are. Looking at TikTok, looking at Snapchat articles, trying to figure out, ‘Who am I?’ instead of really leaning into the voice of God.”
She admitted that she is “a big fan” of things like the Enneagram and Myers-Briggs tests but stressed that “none of that can tell me more about who I am than the one who knit me together in my mother’s womb.”
Huff often talks about the dangers of spending too much time on social media.
In one recent Instagram post, she reminded followers that the things they see online are often not the whole story.
“Life just isn’t as casual. Our world isn’t casual,” she wrote. “I think that’s the thing we have to realize…the picture can never display the full picture. the caption can never articulate the fullness of a 24/7 reality.”
It’s a topic she also explored in her book, “Who Are You Following?: Pursuing Jesus in a Social-Media Obsessed World.”
A description of the book reads, “In an online world obsessed with follows and likes, it’s important to consider what you’re really searching for. When you follow someone, it’s typically because you want to be like them or live like they do–but who have you placed as your role models? This book is perfect for young Christians wondering how they can live a vibrant, bold, and uncompromising life of faith in God by following the Messiah — the ultimate influencer. Discover the love, purpose, and fulfillment that is found only in Jesus.”
Movieguide® previously reported on Huff’s thoughts on social media:
Sadie Robertson Huff shared her thoughts on how the younger generation can use digital media for good while appearing at an NRB forum.
“I would encourage anyone with social media to be authentic to you, to the ministry that God has given you, to the voice that God’s given you,” she said. “It’s so refreshing when someone is real, and someone believes what they’re saying, and someone has conviction behind what they’re saying.”
When talking about the large amount of time her young fans spend online, Huff said, “To be able to be a light in that space is so important, because they are already there. I love what Jesus said, ‘You are the light of the world.’ He talks about how you don’t light a lamp and put it under a stand… We are supposed to be the light of the media.”
“What I want to show on social media is that I’m a whole person,” she continued. “God created us with the ability to laugh and have fun… and He also created us to have wisdom, and the desire to pursue Him in worship.”
