SOUND OF FREEDOM Composer Calls Soundtrack ‘A Unique Project’

Sony Music just released the SOUND OF FREEDOM soundtrack, featuring original music from composer Javier Navarrete.
“From the beginning, SOUND OF FREEDOM was a unique project,” he said in a statement about the soundtrack. “The roughness of the subject material made me doubt if I would be up to the task, and I went back and forth about it, but now believe I made the right decision.”
Navarrete also discussed the recording process, praising the movie’s producers for hiring “the best choir, orchestra and instrumental soloists on hand, including guitarist Ale Martí, and [bringing] them together to record at London’s Abbey Road Studios.”
Making the SOUND OF FREEDOM soundtrack also changed Navarrete’s life. When he arrived in London to begin recording, he lost the desire to drink alcohol. Four years later, Navarrete is still sober.
“I feel much better,” he shared. “That may seem a modest amount of freedom to have conquered with these sounds, but it means a lot to me.”
SOUND OF FREEDOM was one of the highest-earning movies of 2023, with Deadline reporting that it brought in “$249.5 million, including $184.2 million in North America…outdoing mega-budget Hollywood titles like INDIANA JONES AND THE DIAL OF DESTINY.”

Since the movie’s debut July 4, SOUND OF FREEDOM has made history.
The movie has grossed more than $100 million in the box office in less than three weeks.
The head of theatrical distribution for Angel Studios, Brandon Purdie, said in a press release, “There have only been 10 wide-release movies in box office history that have had a second-weekend increase greater than 35% over their opening weekend. All of them achieved this milestone during Christmas. Angel Studios is the only studio to accomplish this feat during the summer blockbuster season with ‘Sound of Freedom.’”
Jared Geesey, the senior vice president of global distribution at Angel Studios added, “While the entire summer movie box office lineup is underperforming, our small independent film continues to grow week over week. Driven by millions of fans and supporters, ‘Sound of Freedom’ has become a national — and soon international — movement for change,”
